I'm guessing that this is the effort of a guy who got fired for being lousy at his job and he wanted to get back at Romney for firing him. If that's the case, this alleged video is proof that Romney made the correct decision to fire him.

First, is he really so disingenuous as to take Mitt's statement about being able to choose your health care provider and fire an inadequate provider so out of context? I guess so. Second, does he think his audience is so dumb as to not know the context of that completely cut n pasted quote? I guess so. Last, does he really think people will mistake him for Jon Huntsman Sr. with his comment about creating jobs? He must.

I've seen a couple of reports now suggestingi that the Bain attacks are not only ineffective, but that they are actually backfiring. Far from hurting Mitt's campaign (or "unraveling the premise of his candidacy," as the White House has suggested), people are rallying in Romney's defense.

I think that probably overstates the case. The net result for Romney will proably be a little bit of a hit, but not a dramatic one. At the same time, anybody who brings out a negative ad ends up taking a little damage themselves, and it's quite possible that the attackers get worse than they give.

If anything it has shed a lot of light on his Bain years, which when taken in total show a very good businessman that created wealth and was not a job destroyer. The creation of wealth did make him personally wealthy, but it also benefitted his investors. It's interesting to note that some of the biggest investors were state pension funds like CALPERS (suck on that Democrats!).

Maybe Mitt can now make a video that showed how he helped all the unionized state employees by pumping up the rate of return on their pension investments.

I agree. I don't know if it's a net hit, either. Ultra-conservatives find his work ethic and capitalist ethos resonant, unlike some of his work while the Governer in Mass. I think the far right secretly wanted a reason to get behind Mitt and this is it.

Negative ads work. Except when the supposed negative is actually something the voter likes. Imagine Gingrich airing TV ads attacking Santorum for being pro-life. Obviously wouldn't work in a republican primary and would backfire. The same thing is happening here, I think.
