I'll follow up with another lame argument put forward by Fox News commentators last night. They all talked about how voter turnout was lower than 2008 and projected that Mitt would receive just about the same number of votes that he did in 2008.

Well, the numbers are in and they were wrong on both counts. Not only was turnout higher than in 2008 (242,960 vs 239,315) but Romney received almost 20k votes more than in 2008 (95,668 vs 75,546).

Does anyone remember such lame reporting in 2008 about McCain, a candidate who was very unlike likely to stimulate the Republican base?

He said to Carvell. If you are measuring voter intensity based on turnout then how do you like the intensity of the dems where about 1/4 of the number of repubs turned out to vote for Obama.

Carvell of course went into his, "get serious, I know, it is fact" routine.
I believe it was Ari that called him out on that. Juan Williams and company were saying the same thing.

Fox has an A team and a B team. The A team includes Karl Rove and Joe Trippi -- guys that have actually ran campaigns. The B team is Bill Kristol and Juan Williams and some other guy that writes with Bill Kristol for the weekly standard.

Trippi and Rove understood clearly that Romney had won decisively and that he's well on his way to the nomination. Bill Kristol is pimping the Gingrich line that 60% of the people not voting for Romney = hating Romney even though Romney is getting more support than McCain did in 2008.

Kristol has some kind of axe to grind with Romney and don't really understand it.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

All of them were working off the early returns that had Romney at 36%. Things like he didn't do as well as McCain. Percent fell below expectations, etc. Both CNN and MSNBC were doing it. It is a shame, but anyone with any insight at all can see these folks are hoping this thing isn't over soon.

I imagine for some it is because they back someone else. For some it is because they want to beat up Romney because they are democrats. Finally for some, it is pure self interest. They want the ratings.

Bingo. Romney wrapping up the nomination early means fewer interested viewers for the remaining primary contests. So much of the commentary is short-sighted, adding little or nothing of value to the political discourse.

Yeah, at it's been long term. I remember his hating on Mitt last time around.

No doubt not only does Mitt remind him of the guy that fired his father, but also the guy that stole his girlfriend in high school.
