    Yep.

Now I have more ammunition the next time one of my right-wing relatives sends me some glowing e-mail about that tough-guy sheriff in AZ.

He has long been a disgrace. He is an incompetent, evil fool.

Didn't this happen in the 90's? Him being disgraced I mean, not this incident.

3D, do you have any thoughts about civil lawsuits here? Maybe a bunch have already been filed.

I was saddened to learn that Sheriff Joe failed to take swift, decisive action with regard to victims of sexual abuse. He should resign.

However, in this instance, it's ridiculous to assume that this investigation isn't politically motivated. Note: I'm not saying that the allegations are neccesarily false (although, I doubt there is anyone else here who knows more MCSO Deputies on this board than I do--none of whom are racist, by the way), but Sheriff Joe's tough stance on illegal immigrants has made him a target of the left.

The DOJ, under a liberal administration, appoints a Latino assistant AG to investigate a Sheriff who takes a tough stance on illegal immigrants and (SHOCK) finds that Shefiff Joe targets Latinos.

If true, these accusation are an abomination, but I don't have enough faith that the government (whether under a Dem or Republican) can overcome political bias when it comes to controversial figures like Arpaio.

                Quite an intelligent response.

He does have a tough stance. He performs raids on businesses who violate the law by hiring undocumented workers. Do I think this is horribly productive? Probably not (the hard working, employed undocumented workers aren't the people I'd ship out of the country, but that's just me). Do I think it makes him a bigot per se? Nope. It probably means he's enforcing the law, which sort of sounds like a Sheriff's job.

There are lots of reasons Arpaio should resign/be fired/not be re-elected. His illegal alien raids aren't one of them.

The bigot word comes from his discrimination of latinos. Denying them basic rights and systematic use of racial slurs. Not to mention failing to police crimes committed against latinos. You probably gave bull connor the benefit of the doubt too.

Haven't we already established that he should be gone?

Yes. I'm just not sure that this investigation is horribly credible.

Mr. Connor died a few years before I was born, but I see what you're saying.

I simply don't view this investigation as horribly objective, nor do I think it should be a prime factor in decided whether Sheriff Joe stays or goes. I

Joe Arpaio has made good use of taxpayer time. It looks like he may have gotten to the bottom of Barry Obama's true identity.

I really think he's senile or just corrupt altogether. He tasted a political power unknown to county sheriffs anywhere else and this Obama bit is proof enough to me that he craves more of that infamy attention that gave him that power to begin with. What a joke.

Not that I'm particularly enamored of Joe Arpaio, but any judgment by this Justice Department on race should automatically be suspect.
