I'm a little ambivalent as to what I think about this blog - which is directed towards the American taxpayer - and I'd love to hear some of your thoughts on it. I won't say much more, as I don't want to express my biases...

Nice to read some confirmation that there is a public safety net for kids that works, at least in this case.
One thing that I hope everybody agrees on is that kids should be taken care of in a society as wealthy as the US, no matter how stupid and/or lazy their parents may be.
But obviously its a fine line for a society to provide necessities of life to blameless kids without completely removing any motivation that their parents may have had to work a little bit and contribute something to society. -

And the reality is that you can't help the kids without helping the parents too. Unless, of course, you take the kids away from the parents. But that starts to be WAY over the top.
With that in mind, I really do like the idea of breakfast and lunch at school. And I like the fact that there have been pilots of providing breakfast and lunch for kids during summer when school is out - because those are benefits that go directly to the kids. I'm even starting to be a little curious about how some kind of after school snack program might work to feed kids when school is out and before they go home and don't get any dinner.Comment
