        This thread is an abomination.

I will note that when I was in Venezuela I encountered a lot of people who liked Chavez. I am not a fan of his left-wing policies but I do respect that he does not want his country walked all over by elite Americans -- the same ones who trample the rights and opportunities of the average American citizen.

I wish him either a recovery or a peaceful transition to the next life.

The man has trampled the rights of his own citizens, brazenly fraternized with some of the world's most constant tyrants and murderers, praised Qadaffi, crushed the economy of a once promising country and been an enemy of liberty - may cancer take him apart and send him into history.

And to hell w/ the PC arschleckers who have a problem with me celebrating his demise.

Cancer is less evil than he is.

Some people deserve to be stricken with cancer. Chavez is one of those people.

There are some among us on CUF that are actually battling cancer right now in the home and seeing it every day. Maybe not "cheering for cancer" isnt an effort to be PC but to be considerate of people that are your friends on this board, your love and concern for Venezuelan strangers notwithstanding.

Fair enough - and I am sorry if it seems insensitive. I guess it is.

I guess I'm looking at cancer as a neutral (if malignant) force - like age.

Given that it doesn't actually have an identity or intent it can be cheered for in isolated instances... but I accept your point on this.

                        But one additional comment....

I'm not talking about strangers. From 2006-2008 my company did a lot of work with some Venezualan developers. We Skyped on a weekly basis for months, became friends, sent Christmas wishes, received Christmas cards.....

Anibal (this was the name of the lead developer) disappeared. He had been an outspoken critic of Chavez' and in mid-2008 he disappeared leaving behind 2 children.

His colleagues have no doubt that he was abducted and murdered.

I hate Chavez. But I hate cancer more. I will never cheer for cancer.

Never? What about Hitler? What about Sandusky? Come on, there's gotta be a line somewhere where you say, okay, I'm pulling for cancer this time.
