The discussion in the other thread about ADHD reminded me of an article I read a couple years ago about the increase of ADHD meds on college campuses as a study help. A few weeks ago Glen Reynolds of Instapundit linked this article about surgeons taking modafinil to aid with suregory with the question "IF “SMART DRUGS” IMPROVE DOCTORS’ PERFORMANCE, is it malpractice not to take them?"

The risk of abuse is always there when taking medication but if you had access to these medications in college, med school, law school or on the job would you take them?

I had a friend in law school who over played a Civilization 4 addiction into an ongoing Ritalin prescription. He was very open (to his friends) about how he only wanted it to help him study for finals.
