That is sad. I think history will view him along with Gates and a few others as among the greatest people of their time. The age of the personal computer and eventually the internet are and will be every bit as transformitive of humanity as was the printing press. You can't really have that conversation without prominently mentioning Steve Jobs. This is a passing that is worth taking a moment to note.

Steve Jobs made a difference in life. That sounds trite but I mean it in a quite literal sense. He wanted to bring personal computing to the world and he did just that. For those of us that are a little older and can remember life before computers, the transformation to digital age has been nothing short of incredible. Jobs played a key role in that. A pretty amazing guy regardless of any shortcomings.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostThat is sad. So true. I remember being a kid and talking to my great grandmother who was born in the early 1890s. She talked about the first time she heard recorded sound, the first time she saw an airplane. How the idea of a person on the moon was just incomprehensible when it happened. It seemed so odd that her life began in such a fundamentally different word. But you are absolutely correct that for any of us who can remember doing research using a card catalog in a library or who can remember a time when people would toss interesting questions back and forth in conversation (but knew that it would be impossible to find an answer, the sort of answer that is at our finger tips today) we started our lives in a fundamentally different world too. It all surrounds this.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostSteve Jobs made a difference in life. That sounds trite but I mean it in a quite literal sense. No kidding. I'm not that old, but I remember the pre-digital age. Tapes, rotary phones, typewriters, encyclopedias. Amazing what the last 20 something years has brought.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostSteve Jobs made a difference in life. That sounds trite but I mean it in a quite literal sense. Amen to what everyone has said. Jobs had a positive disruptive impact on everyone's life. Everyone's.
Here's another moment that many here may not remember very well, if at all:

RIP Steve.
I'm saddened for his family, as I believe he had youngish children. Steve by all accounts seemed to be a fairly good guy to work for, somebody who let his people do their jobs, but expected a lot out of them.
The turnaround Apple made when he was brought back in the late 90s was nothing short of amazing. From the iMac to the iPod to the iPhone and iPad, there is no question that he has positively impacted many lives.
I may have to wear a black mock turtleneck and jeans to work tomorrow.

America has lost a great man."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon
