  • Obama

Yesterday on NPR I heard Tavis Smiley and Cornell West hold forth on Obama. It was total character assassination; Fox News would have blushed. They are furious that Obama has not kept his campaign promises to transfer wealth en mass from rich to poor, erect trade bariers, prop up unions, nationalize health care, and end the wars. They said the White House is rife with incompetence and sexual harrassment.

This is what I always say. Why do Republicans hate a guy just because of his party affiliation when he has pretty much moderated to the point of beinng almost indistinguishable from Republican predecessors?

LOL, just because the far left loons don't think he is leftie enough doesn't mean he is a moderate by any means.

    Oh, I guess I just got SU'ed didn't I.

The timing of this post isn't transparent or anything.

This may be what he's talking about.

As for how women fared within the White House, Christina D. Romer, the former chairwoman of the Council of Economic Advisers, is quoted saying she “felt like a piece of meat” after being boxed out of a meeting by Mr. Summers. And the former communications director Anita Dunn is quoted saying the Obama White House “fit all of the classic legal requirements for a genuinely hostile workplace to women.” Questioned by reporters last week about these remarks, both women have said they were misquoted or that their comments had been misconstrued.

Lebowski is being disingenuous. I talk about NPR and my love hate relationship with it all the time.

It was her. They said she felt like a "piece of meat" in the White House.

The sexual harassment stuff is coming from Suskind's new book. Last Friday Suskind was on one of the best episodes of Bill Maher's show that I have seen. Maher was his usual idiot douche-bag self, but his guests were on fire, especially the conservative independent guy, who was very smart and articulate. I thought Suskind did a good job of describing his book, which the White House is describing as a hatchet job. Suskind frames Obama's naivete as originating from his choice of staff, which was very old-guard in its advice, and did not represent the lefties who were responsible for tipping the nominee away from Hillary and to Obama.

Sooo, they treated her commiserate with the quality of advice she dispensed?

I think the US is center-right politically. Reagan transformed US politics a bit. Things in our system change very slowly. Clearly, Obama has tried to be more liberal than just about any predecessor since LBJ, it is just really difficult to accomplish.

I also think that there is a chance that if the Republicans win in 2012, which I think gets more and more likely by the month as the economy continues to drag, and things are better in 4 years, which I view as less likely than a Republican victory in '12, than they are at election time it is likely to be another generational shift to the right. In another 4 years even most of the students who were much of Obama's fuel in 2008 will have 401(k)'s and kids to be concerned about and nothing destroys a radical "progressive" more than individual concern about one's stake in "the system."

I think Obama was a brilliant campaigner because his style was almost parabolic in that folks could read into his rhetoric what they wanted to read. This resulted in constituencies with varied expectations, some of which was mutually exclusive of each other. The coalition had no choice but to unravel. Further, there was so much belief in him that the elasticity of destroyed hopes has folks more furious towards him than the average politician. His mistake is that folks actually really, really believed in him and he was the first AA President. It was such a nocturnal emission for so many that the expectations were unreachable. Similar to the phenomenon concerning BYU football fans. throw in the lousy economy and he is losing the non-partisan middle who aren't ideological other than their own lifestyle.

I think she is a wanker. Does that make me a sexist or open minded since I think Wuap, SIEQ and pelligrino are also wankers?

Smiley and West are just mad at all the money that has been pissed away by the likes of Solyndra. Obama is disproportionately bending over for all the white liberals' pie in the sky horseshit when he could have been funneling money to the other Democratic constituencies. They just want their equal opportunity to waste other peoples' money.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I think the difference between Obama and any Republican who is moderate enough to get elected is not great.
