Interconnected reasoning is another kind of strength. These connections can be relationships of likeness — analogies for example — or causal relationships, or the ability to shift perspective and view an object or event from multiple perspectives, or the ability to see the “gist” or big-picture context surrounding an event or idea. Many dyslexics work in highly interdisciplinary fields or fields that require combining perspectives and techniques gained from different disciplines or backgrounds. Or they’re multiple specialists, or their work history is unusually varied. Often these individuals draw the comment that they can see connections that other people haven’t seen before.

I didn't know exactly where to put this thread but, I felt The Water Cooler was the best option as this is often a very political issue. For the record, I am dyslexic and I am posting this with the thought that there may be many parents here with children that suffer from the condition and who are forced to deal with the misconceptions that come with it. Hope is always a valuable commodity—especially to parents who have children who struggle in traditional educational settings. I will definitely pick up the book mentioned in the article: The Dyslexic Advantage.

As an aside, my undergraduate degree is in Interdisciplinary Studies in Art and Design and my masters degree is also—an MFA in New Media—interdisciplinary in nature.
