When a company can't get the capital they need from private investors there is most likely a pretty good reason.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View Post"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

And there's more evidence of cronyism - what a surprise with any politician, but Obama is the king of it - with George Kaiser being one of the major investors in Solyndra and he just happens to have been one of the fundraisers for Obama's '08 campaign. Also, there are others who generously donated to Obama's campaign who are involved with Solyndra. Coincidence? I hardly think so.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostWhen a company can't get the capital they need from private investors there is most likely a pretty good reason."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Crony-capitalism is the new paradigm. $530MM thrown down the tubes in that company only to learn that China is better equipped to manufacture a similar product for significantly less money AND at a greater profit, a lesson which ANY 8th grader could explain.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View Post

And it doesn't matter who is President. McCain would likely have done the same type of thing (with added emphasis on invading Syria and/or Iran).

I see what you are doing there. To play Devil's shyster, I will respond that there are exactly two companies in the world capable of providing that service : Halliburton and Schlumberger from France. That comparison is inadequate. There are many other examples of companies wielding the hammer of government to achieve their own ends.
However your larger point is precisely correct. No company should be considered 'too big to fail', and bailing them out from their own stupidity should never occur on the taxpayers' dime.

I agree with what you're saying in the 2nd paragraph, but needed to correct your 1st paragraph in order for it to be more current.Originally posted by U-Ute View PostHalliburtoniswas the poster child for cronyism. Now it's GE.

A brief list of 0bama's failed green energy jobs companies, some of which were run by large campaign donors and bundlers who basically got the loans from your tax money and then went bust...
Solar Trust of America: Fail.
Bright Source: Fail.
Solyndra: Fail.
LSP Energy: Fail.
Abound Solar: Fail.
SunPower: Fail.
Beacon Power: Fail.
Ecotality: Fail.
A123 Solar: Fail.
UniSolar: Fail.
Azure Dynamics: Fail.

Now add Abound Solar to the list.
I think I am starting to see a pattern here."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Obama is horrible at private equity. He should stick to community organizing."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
