  • CERN debunks man-made climate change?

    http://opinion.financialpost.com/201...e-now-settled/

"The science is now all-but-settled on global warming, convincing new evidence demonstrates, but Al Gore, the IPCC and other global warming doomsayers won’t be celebrating. The new findings point to cosmic rays and the sun — not human activities — as the dominant controller of climate on Earth.

"The research, published with little fanfare this week in the prestigious journal Nature, comes from über-prestigious CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, one of the world’s largest centres for scientific research involving 60 countries and 8,000 scientists at more than 600 universities and national laboratories. CERN is the organization that invented the World Wide Web, that built the multi-billion dollar Large Hadron Collider, and that has now built a pristinely clean stainless steel chamber that precisely recreated the Earth’s atmosphere.

"In this chamber, 63 CERN scientists from 17 European and American institutes have done what global warming doomsayers said could never be done — demonstrate that cosmic rays promote the formation of molecules that in Earth’s atmosphere can grow and seed clouds, the cloudier and thus cooler it will be. Because the sun’s magnetic field controls how many cosmic rays reach Earth’s atmosphere (the stronger the sun’s magnetic field, the more it shields Earth from incoming cosmic rays from space), the sun determines the temperature on Earth...

"CERN, and the Danes, have in all likelihood found the path to the Holy Grail of climate science. But the religion of climate science won’t yet permit a celebration of the find."

Hardly the last word on global warming but these are some smart people with some compelling evidence. (My uber smart nephew worked last summer at the CERN Hadron Collider, btw)

Didn't they talk about CERN and that Hadron Collider in the Davinci Code or Angels and Demons or something?

I don't care what CERN is saying. It is still hotter than hell here in Texas and we haven't seen much in the way of rain. Until this hot spell breaks I am still very much in the Gore camp.

THIS JUST IN: SUN HAS MORE TO DO WITH CLIMATE ON EARTH THAN MAN.

          Who knew?

Yes, the sun raises the earth's average temperature from near zero Kelvin to 287. Everything global warming people are afraid of is what happens if man bumps it up to 288 or (me genoito) 289.

You think your genoitos cause a whole degree of difference?

I don't know about the rest of you, but we could use some global warming up in hyeah. La Nina has blessed/cursed us with The Summer that Wasn't. We finally topped 85 degrees for the fifth time this summer, and we are back to highs in the low 70s. Summer is almost over.

Solar cycles matter, as does the cyclical orbit oscillation. Also I get frustrated with people who claim that global warming will cause an increase in huge storms and massive hurricanes. Actually global warming as they explain it would lead to a marked increase in wind shear over the Oceans which will DECREASE the intensity of hurricanes.

I imagine they've adequately covered their bases on this one. Heat wave? Global warming. Cold snap? Global climate change. Wild hurricane season? Global warming. Drought? Global warming. Wet year? Global warming. Mild summer? Global climate change.

You get the picture. It's all a steaming dog turd.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Earthquake? Global Warming. I actually heard that one after the Japan quake! She went on to tell me that we had offended Mother Gaia, and the earthquake was retribution...

Does anybody else remember the "hole in the ozone layer" talk from about twenty years ago? I'm pretty sure I was between the ages of about 6-12 before that crap stopped, so from about 1989-1995?

                          A hole.

In the giant layer of gas that surrounds our planet. A hole in gas. I know gas comes out of holes but I'm pretty sure you can't punch a hole in gas and have it just... stay there. People will believe anything.

Are you serious? The giant hole still exists today. If not for those kooky liberals it would have continued to get bigger. It has stopped getting bigger.

TKD, I like you. But seriously, man.

I don't understand this statement. Are you saying there IS a hole in a layer of GAS that surrounds our planet, or was this TIC? If you ARE serious, could you please explain how such is at all possible? If TIC... also verify.
