    Helpful or, um, less helpful?

    Last week, a random group shows up at Echo Reservoir and heads out to the dam in the wee hours of the morning to scope things out with flashlights.

    Summit County sheriff's deputies, along with federal authorities, were on the scene the next morning. Wirth won't comment on exactly what the Bureau of Reclamation's investigators did. But he said the dam was deemed safe.

    The FBI has no comment. But witnesses at the resort said they used what appeared to be a remote submarine to check out the dam under the surface.

    So, the FBI doesn't want to share what their investigative techniques are, but the local campground operator will, with poor grammar, distribute that information for them?

    I guess the biggest question for me after reading the flyer is whether I should hunker down at home this upcoming September 11 because Echo Resort tells us, "They will try something."

      For the life of me I can't figure out why that guy launched their boats in the middle of the night. The least he could have done is called the cops.

      I've launched at Powell in the middle of the night but Echo? Maybe nightboating is more common now that many boats have a bunch of lights up on their wakeboard towers.

          This is fear-mongering by broadcasting it to everyone in an alarmed tone.

          However, I think it's legitimate to report something like that to the authorities to check out.

          As to hunkering down on 9-11. I refuse to live my life like that. I might die in the process, Hartsvegas being the terrorist target that it is, but they'll never take my freedom.

              Rather than asking campers to be the eyes and ears, why don't they have a sit down with Scott about launching multiple boats at 1:30AM in exchange for cash? Another option is to close the gate to the marina at 10PM and keep it locked until the next morning. I have other similar Homeland Security suggestions but don't want to divulge my entire playbook in one post.

                Its too late for that. The foreigners have already mapped and platted the dam, and no doubt some swarthy turban wearer is preparing the charges even as we speak.

                I think the Governor should probably issue an evacuation order for Morgan and Mountain Green. Its the 10th anniversary of 9/11. They are going to do something.

                  It's very common to go out fishing in the dead of night. Many fish will feed according to the moon/tide cycle, even in fresh water, so good fishing one day might be a 3PM, the next at 3AM. There's a legitimate reason to have a ramp open at night. Also, there are probably any number of public boat ramps around, and then again, a couple of guys can launch a small boat with an outboard trolling motor from almost any shore.

                      2. Is there a good reason to leave the marina gate open all night? CHECK
                      3. Are there any alternatives for mid-night boat launching? CHECK

                            I'm not sure 1:30 am boat launches are all that common at Echo. Of course I may be wrong.
