I didn't mean it was new, I meant "recent" as in the most recent post in the thread.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I don't think he is either of these things. The growing perception is that police don't do a great job of policing themselves and get away with brutal and bullying behavior far too often.

I'm sure things like this have always happened, but it seems like the more these things are recorded and posted online, the more people get upset and react, which makes the cops edgy and fearful for their safety, which makes them overreact, and on and on it goes until there's a boiling point. I feel like we are on an upward spiral and its going to get worse before it gets better.

Also, I don't care how little respect cops get or how thankless their jobs are, I'm never going to make a comment like this:

It looks like it's what iman was referring to in #284 of this thread. And ironically I was arguing with him.
Of course, I'm not making any statement over whether he should have shot the guy--I don't have nearly enough information about the context. But this is the first I've seen of the video and my complaint is about the complete lack of effort after he shoots him.

Right, maybe the guy was autistic, had a psychiatric disorder, was on drugs, or was just stupid or whatever but the cop is the professional and shouldn't be shooting a dude unless he is armed and dangerous right?

            • Is police brutality a serious epidemic, or does it just seem that way due to ubiquitous video and social media?

It's both. There's no doubt that egregious police brutality videos get more airtime, but there was a very long time when there was no accountability for police violence. If it takes ubiquitous videos to make our police forces accountable, I'm all for it.

Yeah, it isn't new (happened back in Aug 2014) but the newly released video has been getting a lot of national press lately. e.g...

I don't think police brutality is something new. Everyone now, it seems, carries a camera so if a cop does something stupid it is going to be recorded. A few years back I witnessed a police take down that was pretty awesome. Shortly after whipping my phone out one of the cops came over and told me to put it away because all the dudes down on the ground were minors. I complied and kept my hands where the cops could see them.

Despite the articles' description, that video is not newly-released; i watched it back when the incident first hit the news ( but was swallowed up by the Ferguson aftermath).

                            • Additional information on the situation that took place in Texas and leads to the same line of thinking that there is a strong undertone of racial issues vs. cops that is starting to boil over.
