Not to mention all the money they poured into it in the meantime.

ArsTechnica pegs the loss at $1B, minimum.

Will Facebook end the same? I don't understand how they and twitter are supposed to make money.

I don't know how Twitter makes money, but facebook makes a ton of money off of advertising and the games.

Zynga is one of the largest app/gaming on facebook. They're looking at an IPO of between $15-20 billion. You know facebook is taking a nice cut of there earnings.

Facebook has ads. I never really understood twitter's business model.

Does anyone have a google+ account yet?

I'm not sure if Twitter does this or if it's third parties, but they can raise money by artificially making something a trending topic. I believe Twitter sells the ability to do that.

I wasn't invited, but know people who were. So far they seem to like it, but hopefully I can get in on the second wave. It will definitely be interesting to see if the herd moves.

Not surprising. Whoever was running myspace was a dumb ass. Anyone could have probably pulled it out of it's nosedive at any point just by cleaning up the spam, porn, and the trashy modification capabilities they had.
