My ward choir has sung two of these (before I became choir director). I am unfortunately very familiar with his work.

Well, as much as I don't care for OGH....I think two inexperienced clowns in the Senate would be more than was necessary. In particular, Chaffetz seems to be one to be avoided.

I don't know enough about Liljenquist to say whether or not he would be a better choice.

I pray that Matheson will not run. He should probably just be a lifer in the House. It would be nearly impossible for him to win a statewide race and he is too valuable where he is.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner. I completely agree.

Could he do this? He certainly can't get placement on the primary ticket. Maybe as a write-in? If he wanted to mount an independent bid I believe he would have to register as an independent prior to the GOP convention in order to be on the ticket in the fall. I could be wrong, but I thought I remember this being the case with Bennett.

The ousting of Bennett actually drove me in the opposition direction. I was independent and decided if I wanted any say, I would need to register as a republican.

As for Hatch, I soured on him several years ago when he held a Senate Judicial committee meeting at BYU with the founder of napster. I think I've shared that on here several times. Personally I think Matheson would be our best bet in the senate.

I wish the houses of Congress were run differently. I don't like how the majority can wield so much power. I hold my nose each time I vote for someone knowing the main reason is because of the power structure.

Fortunately I haven't had to do that much as most of the Dems that run I think are true left leaning dems. Matheson I don't think is, but that might be just because he has to be re-elected every two years.

The only way I would vote for him is if we don't need the seat to gain power in the Senate and someone pushed by the Eagle Forum crowd was running against him.

This is probably the main reason I stay registered as a Republican.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

Matheson would be bad because he's a Democrat. There are too many Dems in the Senate as it is. I'd rather have Hatch and I don't want Hatch there.

Great day for Utah. Knucklehead Chaffetz is expected to announced that he won't run against OGH.

That's good news. I've had problems with Hatch over the years. The teaming up with Ted Kennedy, sponsoring other liberal stuff which I believe comes from a need/want to be liked the the Washington elites, the water carrying for some of Bush's crap just because Bush is a Republican...

That said, Hatch is different than Bennett. Hatch is a true conservative who got lost at times. He was "one of us" though he pissed us off at times. Bennett pretended to be conservative, but was always aloof and was dismissive of conservatives.

He's doing the right stuff now and he will get my vote and would have if Chaffetz was in the race.

Spencer Stokes says Hatch is going down. Of course this is after decades of using his access to Hatch to his professional benefit.

His two most formidable candidates appear to be former state Sen. Dan Liljenquist and state Rep. Chris Herrod.
We have been getting a steady stream of slick, expensive-looking brochures in the mail painting both Liljenquist and Herrod as the worst things since Hitler. They are really comical. They will take anything they have said or done and blow it all out of proportion. And there is zero mention of Hatch anywhere on the brochure.

The funny thing is, Liljenquist and Herrod are much lesser known and have a tiny fraction of the budget that Hatch has, so I think these brochures are actually doing them a favor by giving them some broader name recognition.

I don't know much about Chris Herrod so I looked at his wiki page. It's actually quite informative:

During his teenage years he travelled to Vienna, Hungary, and then-divided Berlin. He is a Mormon, and did his missionary service in Sweden. He is married to Alia, whom he met while in the Ukraine; they have four children (Katya, Niles, Dale, and Reagan). Herrod is a scoutmaster, and an active fencer. In March 2010 he released an 186-page book with a vanity press called, The Forgotten Immigrant - How Tolerating Illegal Immigration Hurts Immigrants, under the imprint Live Free Publishing, LLC.[14]

Someone needs to update that. He isn't a scoutmaster anymore.
