I like Cain but I think I learned a lot about him yesterday. I saw that when he ran for the Senate in 2003 (I think), he told his then-media strategist about the sexual harassment claims made against him during his National Restaurant Association tenure. This was to prepare his strategist to respond in case the subject surfaced in the Senate campaign. When the issue did come up in this campaign just a few years later, Cain had no plan for responding to it and seemed to feign surprise. I never planned to vote for Cain but now I'm not sure what I think of the guy's smarts or honesty.

It would seem there is a pattern here. Cain should do the right thing and drop out of the race despite it's been established that character really doesn't matter.

I have no interest in propping up the Cain campaign but looks like there is very good cause to be suspicious of both Sharon Bialek's account and her motivations http://legalinsurrection.com/2011/11...bialek-begins/

                      Jennifer Rubin has it right

There’s really no way to adequately describe how downright weird Herman Cain’s news conference was today. There was Cain referring to “Herman Cain,” a throwback to Bob Dole’s frequent use of self-referential third person. There was the part where he told us that there may be other allegations --- but those will be false. Memorable, too, was his insistence that the claimants are all anonymous, when in fact two women have been identified by name. Then there was the ranting and raving about the media, although Sharon Bialek came forth with no media filter. I sorta liked the part where he conceded that there was no “definitive” — definitive in the sense of “any” — proof that he was the victim of a conspiracy.

In a way, this was a fitting downfall: The slick ex-talk show host undone by his own rambling. He was no longer charming. He was desperate and entirely unbelievable. Forget the presidency. Forget becoming a conservative icon. Cain succeeded only in leaving the impression that he may be a bit off his rocker.
How many women need to come forward before people, even the most Tea Partyish out there, start to see that this guy was fairly agressive in his sexual advances?

He's also a liar. He claims he is ignorant of the charges against him while head of the NRA. Really? An organization he headed paid money to two women to settle allegations against him out of court and he says he doesn't even know what the women said he did? Really? No one at any time in discussing this matter ever explained the allegations to him? Instead they made out checks to these women and moved on. Really?

Even now, is he not the least bit curious about what they said he did? Even if he's innocent, it would seem natural to try to figure out why these women would make such claims. Did they mistake his innocent actions somehow? Surely he's not as ignorant as he claims. He just doesn't want to address the specific charges.

It looks like Karen Kraushaar may force him to do just that.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Cain struggles to answer Libya question (which frankly is a difficult one for all Repubs given how successful Obama's strategy was).

Cain is obviously out of his element once practically any discussion goes beneath the surface even slightly. During a recent Cain and Gingrich debate/discussion that was televised Cain deferred to Gingrich first on practically every question, letting Gingrinch provide the expertise to which Cain could offer some basic commentary, providing cover to his lack of currency with most issues of the day.

Of the things that truly bother me about Cain it's that he seems to have almost no interest in foreign policy. It's not that he's just shallow or unfamiliar with certain topics. It's that he doesn't have the interest in developing even a superficial understanding of some pretty important issues. I think Cain is funny and has injected some good life into the process, but he needs to get serious about the job he's running for. As it stands now there is no way I'd vote for him over Obama.

We should start a list of Repub Candidates we would pass on and instead vote for Obama:

                            Rick Perry - most definitely
Herman Cain - yes, again, most definitely
                            Hunstman - no
                            Romney - no
Paul - yes, still yes from four years ago
                            Bachman - yes, definitely
Gingrich - I'm still on the fence, but I've got to be convinced
Santorum - no, even though my wife keeps asking who he is and why he's running for president

Looking at this, I count myself as a member of the sane wing of the Republican Party.

Cain just can't stay out of the news for all the wrong reasons. He might make it to Iowa but he doesn't last until South Carolina. He's done.
