There is some prophecy of constitution hanging by a thread and Elders will save it. I know of some people that think it already is and try to overthrow the government. Bo Gritz running for President was one. His followers I knew some did not have social security numbers, some warned us of mark of the beast the church is not going to tell us what to do. Like they are smarter than the prophet.

Many don't pay taxes and one did not have liability insurance because it was unconstitiutional. Told judge he had go to hell insurance. When put to jail followers demanded arrest of Governer AG and several county officials. Including officer that pulled him over. FAnatical.

Beleif something someone said Joseph Smith said so think they are being heroes by advocating arms, not paying certian taxes, secession in some instances and civil disobedience for laws they think are unconstitutional. Pretty fanatical if you ask me. Revelation the prophet has not had time to warn us about so they will.

Constitution fanatics: an entire thread devoted to my family. How nice.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I'm a fan, but I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a fanatic.

Do they carry a copy on their person at all times? I know people who do that. I have fun with them by simply mentioning Marbury v. Madison.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Yep, I love the Constitution as well. Sure beats despotism.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Probably, if there's an app for that.

A relative of mine was badly burned in an accident once. His whole body was burned, except for a section on his derriere, where he had copy of the constitution in his pocket. Powerful stuff.

I often waver on this. I love the story behind the constitution and value it as an enlightened document. Mostly, however, I value it because it works pretty well and is so entrenched. We could hypothetically do much better today in drafting a new one, but because of the bitterness of the partisans such a process would take forever, get filled with pork, and would probably not end up being as good.

So, it weirds me out when it is treated like scripture by so many, but the result is a good one. As long as we can save it from the insidious amendments that occasionally come up, it'll work as long as America does.

I've heard folklore about such a prophecy but I understand the only evidence of it is from much later in time (after Joseph died). Does anyone know more about this supposed prophecy?

                      key point:

In early 2010, the LDS Church issued a statement saying that "the so-called 'White Horse Prophecy' is based on accounts that have not been substantiated by historical research and is not embraced as Church doctrine." In 2010 the journal BYU Studies also published an article establishing Edwin Rushton as the author of the prophecy and that it was not reliable. It claimed Rushton had embellished on Brigham Young's (in 1854) and Eliza R. Snow's (in 1870) reminiscences that Joseph Smith had once said the U.S. Constitution would hang by a thread. It also noted the prophecy's claims that the Latter Day Saints in the Rocky Mountain were supposed to stand against worldwide financial and political disaster, and the foreign nations led by the Russian Czar.

My family was crazy like that in the early 90's. Thank goodness they have dropped most of their crazy thinking.
