I just watched a clip of one of Gaddafi's speeches. He is a raving lunatic, but I decided to do a little research on some of his claims. Of course, he claims that Israel was behind 9-11 and we are Israel's lap-dogs. He claims we are not a democracy at all and are controlled by the Jews, especially the financial sector. The Federal Reserve Board members are all Jewish and roughly 40-50% of Obama's staff are Jewish. Considering that Jews only comprise of 2-3% of the U.S. population, this is astounding. It's interesting that I've heard concerns about Mitt being more loyal to SLC and looking to the Church for guidance, but I've never heard anyone question Israel's influence on the Jews in the U.S. government. Anyway, there's not much point to this but it's pretty interesting.

The Jews are an impressive people. To survive, with all the shit they've been through for thousands of years, they've had to work hard and get smarter. I guess it's worked. I mean, they do control the world and stuff.Originally posted by BlueHair View PostI just watched a clip of one of Gaddafi's speeches. the jews have been actively banking and and on the cutting edge of finance since the 1300s. they have been advising kings since the middle ages. it would be interesting to see what % of harvard/chicago/princeton economics graduate students are ethnic jews. i would wager that it is significantly more than 2-3%. most conspiracy theories border on racism and/or bigotry, and there probably isn't a non-offensive way to approach this conversation.

Anyone know if most of these very influential Jews, not only in the financial world, but in the entertainment world are what you would refer to as "jack Jews". In other words I wonder how many are part of the tribe and how many are serious about their religious beliefs.Originally posted by BlueHair View PostI just watched a clip of one of Gaddafi's speeches. Yeah, it is. In fact, quite controversially at times. This book and a couple of articles that led up to it caused quite a ruckus a few years ago http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Isr...Foreign_Policy and some version of this conversation is always going.Originally posted by camleish View Postthe jews have been actively banking and and on the cutting edge of finance since the 1300s. they have been advising kings since the middle ages. it would be interesting to see what % of harvard/chicago/princeton economics graduate students are ethnic jews. i would wager that it is significantly more than 2-3%. most conspiracy theories border on racism and/or bigotry, and there probably isn't a non-offensive way to approach this conversation.

There is no "Jewish conspiracy." If there were I'd know about it by now -). There is simply a culture that's absurdly successful on intellectual and business levels out of which almost no one is a non-achiever. Now 32, my first Jewish ex girlf is a prof of law at Australia's top law school and one of the most popular lecturers there. My second Jewish ex girlf is a highly successful doctor. And these are simply norms in their families. Of my three closest friends in NYC two are Jewish. One is a ball-busting Asst DA in Long Island and the other owns two popular restaurants in NYC.
Agree - clearly BlueHair doesn't mean it to be offensive but I think it would be fitting to change the thread title to 'The "Jewish Conspiracy"' - since the notion by itself is somewhat problematic.Originally posted by camleish View Postit would be interesting to see what % of harvard/chicago/princeton economics graduate students are ethnic jews. i would wager that it is significantly more than 2-3%. most conspiracy theories border on racism and/or bigotry, and there probably isn't a non-offensive way to approach this conversation.
This concept doesn't really apply in the Jewish world / Judaism - pretty much ALL of the Jewish in the financial and entertainment worlds are extremely secular. Many of them are themselves actually critical of Israel. Few of them make their religious practice a day-to-day thing. I've actually been to Synagogue more times in my life than my second Jewish girlf has in hers. And yet at the same time most of them also deeply feel the cultural side of their Jewishness. The cultural connection is deepened in Jewish culture in large part through the continuous cycle of religious holidays which basically amount to gathering and eating a ton of delicious food....Originally posted by byu71 View PostAnyone know if most of these very influential Jews, not only in the financial world, but in the entertainment world are what you would refer to as "jack Jews". But again, the common theme is an overwhelming emphasis on achievement which is spurred by their culture's constant sense of existential angst.Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī

I really think the title of this thread needs to be changed. It appears anti-Semitic.
My BIL is Jewish. My best friends have all been Jewish. I am proud of my association with the Jewish community and my support of Israel. Our family is pledging a modest amount of $$ to Chabad and Jewish charities this year. It is a beautiful religion with wonderful people and if there is a god and if he has "people", the Jews are God's people. We have considered conversion but instead have chosen to be its most ardent gentile supporters.
I have always felt from my Jewish friends that they are focused on making the most of their opportunities in this life and leaving a legacy that success is simply a natural outcome. Bigoted and envious Gentiles are the cause of these non-sensical conspiracy theories. The cream always rises to the top and those who dream of their celestial glory to come instead of maximizing their living opportunities will naturally fall behind.
Mormons are definitely Gentiles. I guess as Joseph smith really wanted to be one of God's people, it was natural he concocted the "grafting" theory but there's zero chance Mormons are anything but Gentiles. There's a similar culture of religious devotion and somewhat of a shared work/education culture but Mormons cannot hold a candle to the culture of excellence amongst god's people so I cringe when I hear Mormons refer to others as "Gentiles".
My great great grandfather was named Eliasen and his father was an Abrahamsen. We don't have enough family history to know for sure but the lore is that our family (through one of my great grandmothers parents) was part of a small but influential Sephardic community near Bergen, Norway. I'd really like to know.

I'd add the caveat that material success and worldly achievement are not the typical natural outcomes of the seriously religious Jewish subsets. In fact, poverty and state welfare are norms in the highly religious communities in Israel, a fact that is the cause of a real rift between secular and religious Israelis. But those represent a small percentage of the international Jewish community.
Also concur that jealous gentiles are the source of the conspiracy theories - and that it's ironic that there have, in fact, been dozens of conspiracies against Jews throughout the centuries, but no organized Jewish conspiracy against everyone else.
BTW, LDS doctrine allows that Judah are in fact God's people. But I disagree somewhat with your dismissal of Mormons as a new category of non-Gentile with the potential to create a culture of people who are successful and influential far out of proportion to their numbers. I think this FT article gets at some of the reasons why that's already showing to be the case http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/938ff454-8...#axzz1JV3lHz98Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī

I am not sure I have ever heard Mormons use that expression. Perhaps in common cirlcles it has died a death. It was very common in the mission field, at least in mine. If a guy had a tie on that was loud, someone would say, "that tie is quite gentile Elder". As a matter of fact Elders who did not obey the rules to the full extent of the law were referred to as "gentile Elders". I myself had that label, though I did make ZL!Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI am not sure I have ever heard Mormons use that expression. Certainly isn't common.
It was quite common to refer to members not of our faith as gentile.
As we all know though, my mission days were before most of you were born.

I saw that as a form of self-parody. Maybe I was wrong. Please feel free to change the title of the thread. It wasn't intended to be offensive. The "Jewish Conspiracy" would be, as Ox suggested, more fitting of the sentiments I wished to express.
