    My Daughter has to sing this tomorrow

    My daughter is one of three white kids in a class of twenty-five.

    Tomorrow she has to sing this song:

    "Rosa Parks gets on the bus
    On the bus
    On the bus
    Rosa Parks gets on the bus and said
    "let's take a ride"

    White man on the bus said,
    "move to the back"
    "move to the back"
    "move to the back"
    White man on the bus said,
    "move to the back, before we take a ride"

    She looked him in the eyes and said,
    "no way, Jack!"

    "no way, Jack!"
    She looked him in the eyes and said,
    "no way, Jack! I'm going to stay right here!"

    Someone yelled, "Go get the cops!"

    Somone yelled, "go get the cops! 'cause she ain't sittin'
    there!"

    The cops took Rosa off to jail
    Off to jail

    Then history was made.

                                          I think the song is unnecessarily divisive, does nothing to teach the children of the complexity of the situation (she was chosen to be the person to be arrested), is grammatically incorrect in several ways, and these are first-graders.

                                          First graders. I can't decide whether to be offended, upset, indifferent. I can't decide whether to tell her to not sing it. I can't begin to tell her why.

                                          The line, "White man on the bus" just bothers me. My house does not allow racist talk and points out to my kids why such behavior in others isn't Christlike. And then the government-sponsored curriculum gives us this shit.
