  • Glenn Beck is a fear-mongering idiot.

I'm just about as conservative as they come, but even I am fed up with the Beck/Hannity/Rush fear-mongering trifecta. Let's just take Beck for now. He's on tv blathering about how nobody has confidence in the dollar, nobody will buy treasury's, and hyperinflation is coming next week. Bullshit.

I'm not saying that hyperinflation and a collapsing dollar are out of the question, but they're not in the cards anytime soon. The dollar is at a multi-year high and deflation is the worry of the day. The yield curve is flat, and commodity prices are in the crapper. China doesn't own the US, not even close, and the TARP money could have bought all Chinese-held treasurys 1 1/2 times; but if you listen to Beck they hold all 13 trillion dollars of US debt.

I'm sick of him and all of his fear-mongering friends on both ends of the political spectrum. We're not in a Depression, and we won't be unless Beck & Co. manage to talk down the economy to the point that everybody thinks we are. Perception is reality, and he ain't helping our cause.

While you have the rugged good looks to make your way onto CNBC, you aren't employing nearly enough hyperbole and fear mongering to get your own television program. Start small with local radio, incite the locals, and you too might make the big time. Of course, if you allow facts back into your analyses once you get there, you can keep on walking through the revolving door.

I'm of the opinion that your aforementioned triumvirate are peddling entertainment, not information. Other hosts at least have the decency to put their shows on Comedy Central so the entertainment factor is more overt.

I don't listen to/watch Beck, so I have not heard him on this subject, but that does seem an odd take given the CPI data...

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the CPI-U increased 0.3 percent in
January after declining in each of the three previous months. The energy
index climbed 1.7 percent in January, its first increase in six months,
but it was still 31.4 percent below its July 2008 peak level
CPI change over the last twelve months: 1.7

Based on your post, I imagine he talks a lot about the evil of the Fed and the need to put all you have into gold.

On top of that, I used trifecta when, despite the fact that Beck, Rush, and Hannity have seemingly won the race to the top of the ratings, triumvirate would have been a far better word choice. That's what happens when ignorant rednecks indulge in political discourse.

Pretty much. Somehow a return to the gold standard would fix everything, even though scarcity is the only defining distinction between gold and any other fiat currency. You can't eat it, build with it, or employ it, but it has a magical intrinsic value...go figure.

Everyone is a fear mongering idiot. Al Gore says life on this earth will end unless we immediately cut CO2 emissions. Obama says the crisis will turn into a catastrophe unless we pass the "stimulus" bill. Fear is a powerful motivator, and the most effective way at getting people to come around to your point of view. And that's not to say these people are necessarily insincere, but it also doesn't mean they're right, either.

I don't see people walking around with green paper rings and necklaces.

lol, Beck is a prick. He is an alarmist. I remember a year or two ago he kept talking about how terrorists were going to take over school in several states and start killing kids. no evidence, just his own conjecture. and he peddled that shit like fact. I think I hate him worse than Hannity or Rush

I just finished reading a facebook note posting about one of Glenn Beck's commentaries, and others comments were essentially "Glenn Beck and Mitt Romney are Mormons! Everything they say and do is the gospel! I love watching the Glenn Beck show!"

Last week while driving near Clovis, NM the AM radio could find only 7 stations and 3 were airing the same Rush Limbaugh show. God have mercy.

I'm not a fan of fiat currency. It gives the government too much power to wage war and steal wealth. The dollar has already collapsed. It has been collapsing for decades.

I have to agree that Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity are pricks. It is, however, sad that someone can "talk down" an economy. An economy built on confidence is way too unstable.

Do the likes of the radio guys have any more effect on the economy than all the liberals in the mainstream media who were lamenting the economy when Bush was in office? How about Obama's comments that the economy was on the brink of collapse while he was campaigning?
