So the LDS Church is tied in knots; trapped in a box of its own making. Check mate. It's on the dark side twice fold. LDS Church: gay haters and enemies of free speech. I'm sure they wish they could make Buttars go away. Poof. Or cut his tongue out. Not in this country.
LDS Church: You can't disavow Buttars. He's yours, he's YOU, and you can't muzzle him.
I love free speech; liberty's mistress. God bless the ACLU.
Don't look now but something is oozing out of your ears.

One thing for sure, the events of last year emboldened the bigots.
I don't think you know enough LDS people to make that statement. Also, if I'm not mistaken, you don't live in California. I doubt you would say that if you did. No offense, just what I think.

I have no problem with the ACLU when it comes to free speech with the exception being it's defense of NAMBLA's right to openly talk about what that organization is all about. I have a problem with the ACLU's stance on the 2nd Amendment as well.
I was a bit harsh and I apologize for the idiot comment.

My head doesn't explode at the rate yours does whenever you read or hear or speak the letters LDS.

Maybe this is a better question: Why is the LDS Church embarrassed?
Or, why should the LDS Church fear people will associate Buttars with it?
Why don't you answer these questions, as you're about the only one who believes this tripe.

I'm sure the ACLU issued its statement as historic guardian of freedom in Utah against the theocracy.
Why should they be embarrassed? How do their views differ on gays?
Why don't they excommunicate him?
I noticed he's like a grand pooh bear in the Boy Scouts.
No, I was embarrassed for you. You shouldn't post on Friday nights.

Why would I need to live in California to make that statement? The events related to Prop 8 most certainly have emboldened the bigots in Utah.

I live in CA and I agree wholeheartedly with Lebowski's statement.

Case in point: The America Forever Ad that ran in last Sunday's Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune. These guys are crazy, and seem to think Utah is friendly ground. Here's a Salt Lake Trib story on the ad.

I don't like sweeping statements, so that's what prompted my response. You did not limit your statement about bigots to Utah, and California is where it really happened. If Prop 8 emboldened bigots in Utah, then those people are bigger fools than they were before Prop 8 happened.
No one living in Utah can speak with any credibility about the impact of Prop 8 in California. I am sure there are bigoted Mormons in California. The notion that Prop 8 "emboldened" anyone in the Church in California is foreign to my experience. If anything, Mormons here are a little worried and intimidated by the post-Prop 8 backlash. [Note to Bro. TD: That last sentence is meant to reflect my experience, just like the previous sentence.]

Like I said, the idea the Prop 8 "emboldened" bigoted Mormons in California is totally foreign to my experience in California. My view is mainly focused on experience with the San Fernando Valley, the Santa Clarita Valley, the Antelope Valley, and the Ridgecrest area. Those are the most suburban, Mormon-heavy parts of Los Angeles. Maybe you live in Orange or San Diego County. I can't speak for those areas.

THe backlash is emboldening the bigotry even more, I think, then the original campaign did. OTOH, I don't think much biogotry was emboldened in our area. In fact, in my ward we had a couple of families that were very conflcited by the whole debate becasue they had gay children and the ward has generally reached out to them in a very supportive way. Sort of the oppositie of bigotry, it seems.
I was talking about my experience. I do believe I even said that!
