Authorities say their son killed them with a youth baseball bat and one of Scherer Jr.'s Turkish swords, then drove south to the home he shared with his wife and son Ernest IV in Orange County.
Scherer III stared, chatted with his lawyer and smiled as his ex-wife entered the courtroom Tuesday morning. He flashed occasional grins as she recounted their early years dating at Brigham Young University, and the beginnings of his card-playing career.
They married at the Mormon Temple in Oakland in 1999 while still attending school, moved briefly to San Ramon and then returned to Utah.

Later, the taped conversation veered to a woman, Adrian Solomon, with whom Scherer III had carried on an affair.
"I'm not going to lie," he tells his wife. "She's a good lover."
But he also professes his love for his then-wife and son and called being the subject in a murder probe "a life-changing experience."
"It's not a small thing," he tells her. "We will be together forever."

This was a sad story. My FIL has played with this guy before at some of the card clubs in Commerce, I believe. I recognize the name and the story.

I wonder if anyone has ever thought of requiring a signing of the honor code for life, prior to awarding the BYU degree. If it is broken, it can be announced the degree is being revoked.

They did that very thing to the guy who came up with the beefcake missionary calander. Check that: I believe they witheld his degree rather than revoked it.

I should have said, embarassing for the church and BYU for some people.

The same type of people who were totally embarassed and even suggested BYU sports be dropped over the "scandal" at BYU.

I am sure Indy would agree with the point I am making, but for some reason he doesn't like it talked about.

This happened a short distance from our current residence, although we moved here three months or so after it happened. It's interesting how little this is discussed in the ward. But then, there's not a whole lot to say. A terrible story.

They decided that a current ecclesiastical endorsement is needed for graduation. Which really sucks if all you need is a few hours to graduate when you mess up. Can't finish up somewhere else.
