  • Dallas County Commissioner yells at crowd..

Sounds like it was a fun meeting.. I did find this comment interesting..

My history and record will reflect that I am one whose tolerance is limited or non-existent when it comes to racial slurs. The comments were bad enough, but to have them hurled by a member of the Tea Party, known for their racial insensitivity, was more than I plan to absorb.

So the guy said "Mullah" and the commissioner heard the N-word?

    Reminds me of this incident:

After the game Ndiaye said: "I don't have anything to say about spitting on him. Why don't you ask him [Britton Johnson] about what he said to me? He has no right to use the 'n' word. He used it more than once. He said it to me the whole game."

I saw that on the local news last night. That's not surprising conduct from John Wiley Price (one of Dallas County's commissioners). This is the same guy that years ago lead a protest by very slowly walking across streets that surrounded an affluent North Dallas mall during Christmas season which lead to traffic jams. He couldn't really articulate why he was protesting - only that it was his right to protest and disrupt what he coined "White Christmas".

Since Majerus has been in several CUF threads lately, I sure loved his impassioned defense:

Majerus staged a special news conference with Johnsen to address the accusation. "The language is a little graphic, but I would like him to speak the exact truth from his heart," the Utah coach said, although his warning proved unnecessary.

"Before the game started, Coach told us [that] to beat this team we had to play a physical game," the 19-year-old forward said, his voice shaking at times.

"I was throwing my body around on Neeja, Ninja," he said, stumbling over the pronunciation of the Senegalese name, "and you know, that's the game of basketball.

"We were getting really competitive and our bodies were clashing into each other, and he slapped me across the face at first and I kind of ran back and he told me he was going to kick my 'f-ing a,' and all this.
"It kind of kept happening and happening," Johnsen continued, "and the only words that came out of my mouth, I said, 'Look I'm a hundred pounds lighter than you and I'm kicking your butt.'"

Ndiaye is listed at 6-foot-10 and 230 pounds, while Johnsen, from Murray, Utah, is 6-9 and 200 pounds.
"That's all that happened. And he spit on me. I never called him the 'n' word. I've never called anyone that. It's a joke that this is even happening, because, you know, I'm a freshman, and this is blocking some of our success and happiness."

"I stand by this boy's statement 100 percent. I know this boy's family, I know his character, I know his older brother, who played for me, and I know this boy," Majerus said.

He added: "This is really an unfortunate incident. This boy is very upset about this, he has spoken to you what he believes. I stand behind that statement, and I'm very sorry that this had to come into one of the nicest events anyone could ever be part of," Majerus continued.

"I don't want this to cast a pallor over the tournament, or these two guys' lives. So that's it. I don't have anything else to say about it.

"If in fact that happened, I will resign."

He could be right about one thing. The dallas tea party is a joke when it comes to racial sensitivity. One of their leaders runs this blog...

No. Price just chose to interpret it as a racial slur. Racial politics has been alive and well in Dallas for some time. Price forced the resignation of an elections official that many see as racially modivated. So it's ironic that Price is now playing the race card. Dallas Country has a reputation of being corrupt but the elections have always been deemed fair. The chief election official who was praised by both parties is now out and Texas has passed a new Voter ID law.

Listening to talk radio discussing Dallas county politics was the most
entertaining part of my commute when I lived there. I-30 is basically the local Mason-Dixon line.

Yea. A lot of the problem in Dallas County is because there is a high degree of segregation. A lot of "us" and "them": blacks, hispanics, whites. The Dallas Public School system is a mess. When I first moved to the Dallas area and lived in Dallas County there was a local TV news story on Dallas areas/neighborhoods where pizza companies refused to deliver pizza because of safety concerns. Being a new resident, I thought it was a nice public service to denote what neighborhoods to stay out of - if Dominos Pizza won't go near there, that's good enough for me.

This is the same guy who got upset because he felt that "black hole" was a racist statement.
