  • Republicans 2012 starting to look like Dems 2004

There's the patrician northeasterner that most people intensely dislike: Kerry.....Romney
There's the unelectable small-state governor that the opposing party is secretly hoping will be the nominee: Dean.....Palin.
There's the slightly creepy gladhanding southern huckster: Edwards....Huck.
There's the opportunist intent on cashing in some old celebrity: Clark.....Gingrich.
There's the underfed crank who wears bad suits: Kucinich.....Paul.
There's the "centrist" who occasionally dances with the other party: Lieberman...Huntsman.

With that field I'm pretty much expecting another four years of Obama and then some real candidates (give me a field with Rubio, Ryan and Christie) in 2016.

You lay out a sad case. Of the candidates listed the only two I'd support over Obama would be the two Latter-day Saints. I do think you overlook a unique difference that Romney and Huntsman bring to the table and that is a strong private sector resume, Huntsman admittedly less so but his Foreign Policy experienced would be unmatched in the 2012 GOP field (assuming Bolton doesn't run).

By 2016 the shine will be off Rubio, Ryan and Christie and Republicans will still be clamoring for the next Ronald Reagan.
