  • Obermann done with MSNBC

[ame="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/#41201922"]Countdown with Keith Olbermann Countdown with Keith Olbermann[/ame]

Very much a surprise. Brillant on Sportscenter but I tired of him of this show much like I tire of O'Reily or Beck on their shows.

Olbermann is an asshat. Apparently he wanted more money. MSNBC knew damn well he isn't going to get another show with more money anywhere else. There's no way CNN goes off the ledge like MSNBC and hires him, CNN still has the hard news cable news angle. Fox, of course, wants nothing to do with him.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Don't count out FoxNews. I can see it now: "Hannity and Olbermann"
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Olbermann is one of the reasons I don't talk politics much with people I don't know (or on messageboards). I always liked him on SportsCenter, and continue to like him at times. Up until a few years ago, he used to come on the Dan Patrick show for an hour at a time, and I thought he was still good (maybe he still does this, but I haven't listened to Patrick in a few years). But whenever he talks about politics, I think he's an idiot, even though I agree with him more than a lot of folks here (though still not a lot).

Roger Ebert is another good example. I love Ebert's movie reviews, and he has written some good cultural and perspective pieces, but ever since I followed him on Twitter, I like him a lot less. He spends all of his time railing on Palin and Beck, but he is their mirror image.
