Who is preening? I have never called myself an intellectual.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostYou normally need to visit the "What are You Currently Reading" thread to see so much preening.

There was no such term. Liar. Cougarguard was a tight and stimulating place until you came along and turned brothers and sisters against one another. From then on blood ran in the streets. The laughing assassin you are.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostYou are talking to a group of people that had once dubbed themselves "the 7 sages of cougarguard."

This thread appears to have run its course. Anything substantive from here seems unlikely. However...
IMO this is a good point and well thought out. I'm not smart enough to consider myself an intellectual, but I can easily admit to "wrestling" going on between my reason against my beliefs.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostThe very definition of an intellectual is someone who relies on his intellect to shape his world view. That doesn't preclude such a person from being religious also. They are not mutually exclusive. But I don't believe a true intellectual defers to religious belief at the expense of reason. An intellectual doesn't discount new ideas because they are at odds with his religious beliefs. Everything is considered. I believe that's the point SU was making. People who defer to religion have historically sought to limit the scope of discussion, while intellectuals have sought to broaden the scope of discussion. That's a fair point.
I thought the same thing exactly. He brings it up in a lot of threads regardless of the subject.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostYes you have. That's why you're constantly bringing up the Mormon thing. You're completely over it and prove it almost daily.
I never recognize your angle. Obviously you would have to dumb it down to be of any help to me. Hell, even people like Non Sequitur (who is obviously smarter than I am) would seem to have to infer your meaning.Originally posted by SeattleUte View Post

DD, maybe this will help with your confusion...Originally posted by Devildog View PostI didn't mean to paint you as a liberal... I perceived from your posts (that I have read) that you were further left than I am.
That's not hard to do around here... Hell, Lebowski bet that I had pulled the article from Fox News.
