Wait, you're OPPOSED to net neutrality? What the hell is wrong with you?

lol the FCC doesn't care about your maniacal ravings.

I'm with Tim, reading a couple of quick articles I don't see what is so wrong with this. Comcast can't slow down Netflix anymore, that's a good thing.

What scares me is that IPU has done (or still does) IT consulting. I've never met a single person in the IT business who opposes net neutrality, and I'm not exaggerating.

True, but Comcast might just take offense and kick him off the Internet.

I'm against something that is an attack on the free market. If my ISP decides to block something that I want, I will switch providers. I'm a big enough boy to make my own decisions.

Comcast sucks, which is why I don't use it. I have another provider with which I'm happy. If the day comes that I'm no longer happy with it, I'll switch to another provider.

It must be nice to have so many options. Most places I've lived there was only one or maybe two. What happens when they all start blocking content or charging more for some of it?

Then I'll not have a provider and go back to the days of no internet. It would be an adjustment, but it can be done.

So in other words, you're unfamiliar with the basic fundamentals of what the net neutrality issue is even about. It's not about "blocking something that [you] want," it's about utilities unfairly throttling certain customers (business customers, not home users, per se) in an anti-competitive fashion. Competition is what the free market is built on. Net neutrality prevents internet utilities from acting anti-competitively.

If the electricity provider in the city of Murray decided they wanted to upcharge customers who buy season tickets to Utah football games since they (the provider) were a sponsor of BYU football, what would you do? Are you saying you'd pick a new electricity provider? Set up a windmill in your backyard? Dam up the gutter and produce hydroelectric power? Sell your house and leave Murray?

No, I'm familiar with it. I worded it poorly, but when I mentioned "blocking something I want" (like the problem with Comcast and Netflix) I should have mentioned that Comcast was charging extra for Netflix. Comcast, being in the private sector, should be able to do whatever it wants to do. If Comcast customers wanted Netflix, they could drop Comcast.

And yes, if Murray Power Co. decided to up my cost because I buy Ute season tickets, I'd move. Of course, that would never happen as one of the bosses at Murray Power is in my stake and according to him, most all the folks who make the decisions at that company are Ute fans. Of course, you're comparing apples to oranges, as the internet is not a public utility.

It's my money and I can ultimately decide who gets it.
