  • Tis the Season for Happy Holidays!

The same people at Fox News who host their annual fit over the use of the phrase 'Happy Holidays' are also the same people who tend to be very supportive of the agenda of the Israel lobby.

I don't understand why this hasn't happened yet, but I would sure like to see it -- the next time Gretchen Carlson goes ballistic because some small town decides to change their holiday theme from "Merry Christmas!" to "Happy Holidays!," I want the town representative to tell Gretchen, "We changed the theme to help our Jewish citizens to feel like welcome members of the community."

Ah, the annual War on Christmas. Around this time I always dial in to Christian radio in hopes of hearing a distraught Momma Grizzly complain about being wished Happy Holidays by a Target employee.

This Sunday a HC spoke about not being ashamed of Christmas. He said that while it is no longer politically correct to wish someone a Merry Christmas, he still does so.

Sounds like a brave, brave man. That kind of selfless dedication to righteousness is deserving of our respect and admiration.

ha. He seemed pretty genuine. I just though of it when I read this thread.

He also pointed out the Christmas/X-mas thing, as well. People need to stop doing that.

I have never felt pressured to not celebrate Christmas so I am a little lost during these sorts of "mild righteous indignation" talks. The main change I have seen is that schools have to tone down the Christmas rhetoric. However, that type of change makes sense to me as a general rule given the diversity of religious/non-religious beliefs at any given school.

Beyond school, I just dont get that worked up about walking around the mall and being surrounded by "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." I would probably find it a bit odd if I were constantly being wished a Happy Hannukah when I don't celebrate that holiday.

This Sunday was a weird day. The RM talking about the KKK, the HC talking about defending X-mas, a First Presidency announcement to vacuum the chapel, an EQ lesson with a faith promoting story about Wendy's hamburgers, and an awkward tithing settlement. This must be what it feels like to be SoonerCoug.

Just checked the cards, looks like a "Happy Holidays" season from the mUUsers, along with a 1 page bragathon letter indicating in no uncertain terms how superior we are to others.

I am aghast that most folks pronounce it ˈkris-məs' when they should be pronouncing it ˈkrīst-məs'.

I like the way Stephen Colbert has been using the word "Christ-must!"

I don't understand why anyone would ever be offended by another person expressing well wishes in the context of their faith.

I don't why anyone would ever be offended by the use of a generic phrase like "Happy Holidays" that shows an intention to wish another person well whilst not offending them.

A debate over how to best express what in every case is a kind sentiment nears the top of the list of subjects which get a lot of run and matter not at all. And that is saying something.

Xmas has been given an unjustified bad rap.

In all fairness, Hannukah was basically risen from the dead by the Jewish leadership as a way to give young Jewish folk the opportunity to celebrate something Christmaslike. I guess they saw the writing on the wall that if they didn't make Hannukah as entertaining as Christmas that the Jewish kids would grow up and become Christian. Of course Christmas itself has evolved tremendously over the past century.

You gotta admit Christmas is the coolest holiday ever. Even my best friend growing up was not from a Christian family, yet they still had a tree and celebrated Christmas with presents and the like.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
