    Facebook, Bishop/Stk Presidents "Direction"

    Anyone else heard of this?

I've got a friend whose bishop and stake presidency is asking everyone to delete all friends of the opposite sex off their facebook accounts.

Seems they've had a string of people getting divorced after they've run into old flames from high school and both deciding that yes, indeed, they were soul mates and should have got married...and so they make it happen after all these years.

So..., "delete all the opposite sex friends from your Facebook account" and/or "stop Facebooking" altogether.

    Thoughts?

Hmm... Good motivation for me to remain active I guess.

Also, stop talking to people of the opposite sex, since that can lead to sex. Also, if you have gay tendencies, stop talking to people of the same sex.

...well, that's kinda what I was thinking too. Seems kind of extreme to me.

Um..I think you're good. You're not the opposite sex of yourself.

Did anyone hear of the minister that told everyone to get rid of there facebook accounts because they caused adultery. Ironic thing before facebook existed I beleive he happened to have an affair. Don't know whole story there. What a hypocrite.

They should just drop the whole Facebook counsel and just tell people to stop screwing around.

Because we like to be commanded in all things...

My BIL's stake president has counselled everyone to not have facecards or dice games in their homes because it leads to gambling. Why not just say don't gamble?

Maybe it is a proverbal sifting of the tares and wheat. Friendly Facebookers and Canasta players on the left with the goats and lonely facebookers and Uno players on the right with the sheep.

That would be fascist, as it's one of the best ways to close off alternative interpretations.

Once in seminary, my teacher told us an anecdotal story that began with an active church member visiting the store for a gallon of milk on Sunday "just this once".

Ultimately the climax of the tale was this man slipping into full-on apostasy and grievous sin of some sort. I stopped paying attention at some point, so I’m a little fuzzy on the specifics.

Edit: I think there was a divorce and maybe excommunication involved, but I can't be sure.

I do remember that my teacher was VERY somber while telling this story, so it has to be true, right?

I bet the "gallon of milk" was a euphemism for big jugs. Then the story makes sense.

I feel bad exposing him here in this thread but his name on his account is: 'HotNOhio.' Its kind of sad...he has cut out pictures of musclemen and photoshopped his face onto all of the pics. I don't know how he has accomplished it, and I don't quite understand it, but he has -4 friends. Yes, -4 friends.

I had a companion on my mission who used to do this. He claimed it was to allow him to visualize the results of exercise. it was a motivation. He was an odd dude.
