How much money will this shave off the budget deficit next year?

About zilch. It's decimal dust. I get that it's symbolic, but it's a silly exercise and allows them to act like they're doing something without really doing anything.

Precisely. Given that there is a finite amount of time, I don't want them pissing away the time they do have with ridiculous issues like this.

            More than a salary increase.

I agree it's kind of silly but I like the idea as a first step if it also comes with multiple other steps that finally get our budget deficit under control and eventually eliminated.

You don't really expect him to announce significant cuts to Medicare before he is even the official speaker were you?
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I bet you're also against a $10/gallon gasoline tax too.

You may think it is useless, but a majority of the public are pissed at Congress and the idea of them not feeling the pinch like the rest of us goes to the heart of the issues people have with the beltway...

Show that you are taking a hit too would go a long way to ease frustrations people have and that they are listening...

I don't give a shit about other's feelings; I'm interested in real results coming from real cuts that make a real difference. Save the touchy-feely crap for the progressives to piss and moan about.

As am I.. But there are MANY ways to construct a Bill and to make budget cuts.. Lets not pretend that it is going to happen over night. I see this as a "easy" passable bill considering how scared shitless most of the incumbents will be...

All things are up in the air and should be....

Why do these people focus on this kind of shit? Boehner is the top dog in the House and he's slated to make $225k, hardly a shocking sum. It's not like he's acting like the city manager for Bell, California. $225k seems like way below market value salary for the Speaker of the House.

By the way, how do they get "Bane-er" out of Boehner? Mr. Speaker, time to come out with the correct Anglicized pronunciation of your last name.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Jeez, 20+ years is a LOOOOONG time for a person to be in the House. They become completely out of touch with reality about 3-5 years into it, and then the thirst for power takes over.

Actually, 225k is the market salary. There is only one speaker of the house, and that's what the position pays.

Fine, we should lower it to $36k per year, that's the market rate for a guy with that kind of authority and responsibility because that's what we say it is.
