Interesting. I hope it's wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that someone had misused access. Power has a way of corrupting people.

I'm guessing that if someone were to dig deep enough, there would be names on both sides of the aisle that have done this. It's politics, after all.

I dont understand the confusion. I spent about 1 minute on the website and was able to see that Koch is a conglomerate that owns a load of subs, many of which are LLCs. So why is this secret info?

Is this info supposed to be public or private? Not being a tax attorney or CPA or even a bookkeeper, I have no idea.

The LLC tag is commonly used as part of a company's trade name. There is nothing inherently private about it, esp if it is used by the company on its own website.

I enjoy a good witch hunt, but this isn't one. Obama's birth certificate was much more compelling than this.

Its been on the conservitive web sites for a month or two.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

You're up in the night on this one, DDD. Anyone who looks at someone's tax records for political purposes, whether the info is available elsewhere or not, should be prosecuted.

I work for a medical company that regularly fires employees for looking at medical records for ANY unauthorized reason. Recently, a person was fired who apparently looked at records from time to time simply out of curiosity. Our tax records deserve the same type of protection.

That said, although I think it may deserve an investigation, it sounds as if this may be a case of trying to find a house fire from the slightest whiff of smoke.

How about we just abolish the current income tax system and replace it with a national sales tax? People can then just buy things with cash and never worry about the government, at any level, abusing their power.

But LLCs don't pay income taxes!!! They are exploiting a tax loophole that needs to be sewn shut!!!

I didn't read the article, so I can't comment on specifics. but these kinds of accusations aren't new. I remember both Clinton and Dubya being accused of something very similar.

It's not really a shock that it comes out shortly before mid-terms though, is it?

At least they didn't divulge the inner sanctum of privileged info: that these LLCs are skating by with only limited liability. Of course, I'm only speculating here.
