Japan's demographic problem is much more acute and pressing. In many ways it can serve as a case study for China.

I am surprised at the limited government action and lack of planning to address this problem. There has been an effort to provide more daycare and a greater effort to recruit foreign students to Japanese universities in hopes that they will stay after graduation.

In the absence of greater government efforts, I suspect the market will take over, meaning a significant increase in immigration, particularly from Southeast Asia for blue collar and service industry jobs and from South Asia for the tech sector. Management will need people as well. There will be significant opportunities for Japanese speakers from all over the world, an interesting development after all the Japan passing that has happened over the past decade.
      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Friedman is an idiot. Always has been. Always will be.

Nope, reading Friedman's China columns. They're ridiculous.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
