We leave for vacation on Tuesday, which means if this thing hits Houston we would be 2,000 miles away, which is good and bad. It's good because we won't have to put up with power outages and hot weather. It's bad because if our house gets damaged I'll likely have to cut the vacation short and come back. Granted the possibility of major damage the house is remote as we've already cut down our tall pine trees, but debris or anything else could do damage that results in flooding inside the house.Originally posted by wuapinmon View Post
We have interesting timing with hurricanes. When Gustav hit we were on vacation in the Florida panhandle. We had to cut that vacation short by 1.5 days so we could drive back to Houston, otherwise we risked getting stuck for 3-5 more days in Florida. Then when Ike hit we were on vacation in Utah. In fact, Ike hit Friday night/Saturday morning and that Saturday MJ and I went to the BYU/UCLA game. We called a ward member from I-15 (on our way to the game) and he checked on the house. Luckily all was fine and the one pine tree that fell went away from the house and just took out the fence and skirted our neighbors garage.
Current models are showing this thing skirting the northern coast of Mexico and landing south of Houston. I hope that course holds, but we'll prepare the house for a hurricane anyway just in case.
