  • Sounds like most reports are saying the levee system around New Orleans and St Bernard Parrish worked as designed. There doesn’t seem to be many reports of flooding in that area. Also hearing that most power is on in Baton Rouge.

there’s definitely a lot of damage from the wind and the coastal cities seem to have been hit very hard by the storm surge, but that happens every time a hurricane come through. Not to make light of it, but those cities aren’t exactly the nicest areas in terms of infrastructure, for various reasons.

only one reported death so far, which is amazing. I’m sure that number will climb as the days go by and more rescue workers can get into places, but this hurricane was as powerful as Katrina when it landed.

        • We never lost power and had no damage. We were lucky though since there’s a lot of people without power. The wind from that storm was the worst I’ve seen, including any hurricane that has come through.

          • Pretty interesting NYT podcast a day or two ago about how insurance companies are going broke with all these natural disasters and they are starting to cancel policies in certain states/areas and/or jacking premiums up through the roof.

We had our home and auto non-renewed this spring, thanks in large part to all of the massive fires that we've had in recent years in California. Our previous company pulled completely out of the state. Trying to get it replaced was a bit of scramble, as a number of the first quotes that I received were 4x what we have been paying.

Their methodology has been heavily criticized. See for example: https://rd.springer.com/article/10.1...069-013-0566-5

You have power, others don't, time for a pool party!
                  Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

The only thing God hates about my county is that it is the second reddest in the state and that it is a MAGA stronghold at all levels of local government. Prior to 2016, it was a delightful place to live.

I would but I need to clean the filters. I’ll do that tomorrow and then get in.

Georgetown is really nice. I don't see Odessa on the list.
