    • Coker just cancelled classes after 1PM on Wednesday, and the local school district cancelled starting tomorrow "until further notice." It's getting real again.

That storm looks like it could be bad. While I’m thankful it’s not heading into the gulf, Isaac looks like it could head my way. Stay safe and hunker down!!

Yeah, they're showing Isaac dissipating to a TS in 5 days, but that water is so warm in Hurricane Alley that I worry about yall. You stay safe too.

          • Coker just canceled all classes, effective immediately. They also want anyone who can evacuate from the dorms to do so. I am starting to worry.

Yeah, just saw that there's one model saying that if it stalls out, and it seems likely to do so, we'll get 8-12 inches of rain at my house with 35 mph winds. Pine trees will come down in that situation. And, it rained an inch yesterday and .65" today, with more forecast up through landfall.

                I'm evacuating now for sure.

                • Virginia gov has already issued mandatory evacuations in the Tidewater area and activated the National Guard. I think the Navy is sending their fleet in port out. Grocery stores were already busy tonight. I need to check my sump pump.

The battery is dead on my generator and no one knows where the charger cord is. I ordered a new one from Amazon; it should be here tomorrow. I'm going to take better care of the damned thing from now on.

Not knowing much about electricity.....could you use a car to jumpstart a generator?

I have no idea but I imagine you could. Do you not have a backup pull cord on the thing?

Best of luck. A stalled out storm that just dumps tons of rain is worse in many ways than a storm with strong winds that flies right through. Harvey’s destruction came from it stalling for four days. I still get ptsd from that storm when we get a huge amount of rain in a short period f time.

                      • This is an odd thread and I’m not sure what it has to do with the South. Regardless, the couple that bought our house is from Oxford, England (i.e., not the South). The wife asked where I’m from and I mentioned Oklahoma. She said, “Ohhh, so you’re a girl from the southwest yourself!” I had no idea how to respond. “Southwest” = overpriced Navajo turquoise jewelry at the tourist district in Santa Fe. Not a Bradford jersey in Norman.

                        • Technically I think Oklahoma is in the Southwest - personally I prefer a Steve Owen's (Heisman Trophy winner in '69 or Jack Mildren's (his QB) jersey (if you could find one)) Those two are the OK football players of my youth (I'm dating myself again)

Midren actually spoke at our Youth Football banquet at Ft. Sill in 1969.

                          • I know some of you are in the storm's path, but I have a real problem. I planned a trip to the Wisky game on Saturday with some college buddies a while ago. Due to having a game to officiate on Friday night, I was going to get to Chicago (site of my work conference next week and where I am meeting my buddies to drive to the game) midmorning Saturday via a redeye to Atlanta. Now I'm worried the storm will disrupt Delta enough that I will be late or not make it. See, this is really serious.

Norman is kind of Southwest Oklahoma
