We were driving home from my parents in Sandy last night and caught a view of it in the dark. Scary and beautiful at the same time. My four year old thought it was a volcano and the fire was lava (it did kind of look that way). Our home in South Jordan was in the smoke's "flight path". Smelled like a campfire. From the looks of it and and way the wind was blowing last night I think we were lucky only four homes were lost.

BTW, isn't that new NSA data center up near camp williams? Is that thing on fire?

Edit: I guess it hasn't been built yet.

They've started earthwork, but construction of the buildings hasn't started yet.

Even Carl Wimmer got some face time. His was the best...almost like testimony meeting. I'm paraphrasing: "Last night was the worst night of my life...this is one of the best days of my life" (cause it could have been worse, I guess). He seemed to choke up...

I watched it last night from about 9:00 - 10:00 from a Lehi/Traverse Mountain perspective. The fire ran North toward Herriman, but also ran up the slope (East), over the ridge, and down the other slope into the next canyon to the East. The speed with which it ran both up and down was pretty scary - especially true in some of the ravines where the wind pushed it really fast.

My wife commented that she now could understand how someone could get trapped by a wildfire. True that...

Has it been dry in Utah this summer?

My wife and I were the owners of this lot (yellow boarders) before deciding to sell it this summer. Obviously our home woulda been right in the cross-hairs:

Not a dry summer, but a really warm and dry September. For the last 4 weeks, temps have been ~10 degrees above normal. It's still near 90 every day.
