This should be an interesting thread. Of course, I agree with him. I'm curious as to what the professionals, college grads, and college moms and dads among us think.

A 4 year liberal education degree and a buck will buy you a coke.

I see. So you are only interested in affirmative feedback.

I'll read this article after I stop laughing at the fact they used a picture of this guy from 1989.

His little mini-bio at the bottom of the page failed to include a mention of his appearances as an extra on Lucas, Can't Buy Me Love and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and his starring role on SNL doing Weekend Update back in the late 80s/early 90s.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I have a liberal arts degree, and I feel that my job prospects after undergrad were severely limited. I had almost no practical knowledge whatsoever, and I ended up managing a Walgreens just to pay the bills.

On the other hand, my education did prepare me for law school.

On the other hand, law school didn't really prepare me to be a good lawyer, and since I had no practical knowledge to fall back on, I'm still a little disadvantaged in basic business nomenclature.

Liberal arts isn't supposed to prepare you for a career, its supposed to prepare you for life. IMO, if you get a liberal arts degree without plans on getting a graduate degree, you're an idiot (not you specifically).

Well, I got my degree specifically so I'd go to law school. I had two kids through most of college, so if I had gotten a degree where I could make 50k per year, I don't think I would have had the guts to go on to law school.

I'm not sure my degree prepped me for life or not, but I definitely had a lot of useless and awesome information because of it.

As an addition to my first post, how could I forget about this guy's starring role in The Lost Boys?

I think liberal arts are important. Just not for everybody. And not worth the price of tuition at most schools.

I have a liberal arts degree. Gidget calls it my useless degree. It hasn't been entirely useless. But if I could do my undergrad over I would have gone a different route entirely. However, I really enjoyed my major and thought I got a decent education regardless.

It seems like most people don't work in their major and they get their degree to either get into grad school or to jump through the "college degree required" hoop for jobs. Outside of engineering and accounting/econ/finance, what majors are really useful job training?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah
