If there were a third party option I think it would flatten out quite a bit more. What's interesting is that Trump has historically underperformed in polls because people are afraid to acknowledge they'll vote for him, but I wonder if there isn't an opposite dynamic with polls of LDS when it comes to voting for Democrats.
in regards to some poll results on twitter showing LDS church members supporting Trump at an 88% rate. I called BS on the poll. I also call BS on the notion that 88% of this board would pick Trump. So let's put it to the test. This is an anonymous poll so please be honest. There are only two choices because that is how the other poll was set up. If you had a gun to your head with only these two choices, which would you pick?

I don't believe that LDS church members are supporting Trump at an 88% rate. Probably closer to a 60% to 70% rate.

Yes. That is about where I would guess.

I have a few never-Trumper family members who are historically Republicans who are now maybe-Trumpers. Actually, they are voting for Trump, especially since Kamala became the candidate.

I am a never-Trumper and a never-Harris. I sometimes attempt to play the "would you rather..." game with Mrs. Meanie (e.g. - would you rather be pretty and stupid or smart and ugly?) and she hates it and refuses to play. So I'm copying the Mrs' tactic and refusing to play in this poll.

This board is definitely not representative of mainstream LDS. I haven't graced an LDS chapel since Feb 2019, but the ward I was in at that time would have been near 90% Trump and if that's gone down it's only because a lot of those people left the church because it's "too liberal."

Re: the poll that inspired this straw poll, isn't that Burris guy the one who testified in favor of Kari Lake and said he found irregular voting patterns? He's an elections grifter.

This isn't true. Because if they are now maybe-Trumpers, then they were not actually never Trumpers. #sjbh

Yeah, I'm guessing your ward was an outlier. I was in a ward that was 80-85% pro Trump by my estimation. A boundary realignment in 2022 put is into a new ward (actually and old ward we had been carved out of 4 years earlier) and it's about 60% pro Trump. So a single ward isn't a very good measure, IMO.

My ward in Lehi would probably be a higher percentage for Trump than the poll reflects.

I guess I was wrong. Even though this board is a bit more intellectually diverse than typical mainstream LDS, it’s still really conservative. Go read any thread and it’s frank ryan looking like John Wick going up the stairs. I just have a hard time believing that a group of people that spend all day criticizing gender ideology, safe spaces, Palestinian protests, DEI efforts, and the like would actually vote for Harris. We all may hate Trump but the truth is that his governing approach is way more closely aligned to this board than Harris. Also I think the respondents are kind of lying to themselves.

Agreed, as it wasn't even representative of the Stake honestly. I don't pretend to know what percentage of mainstream mormons will vote for Trump. I just don't believe a poll on this site will yield valuable info in that arena.

My neighborhood caucus selected Haley over Trump. The only political sign in my neighborhood is a Biden/Harris sign. I am sure Trump would get more votes overall, but not by a big majority.
