I think they're uniters of people who think like they do. But, "uniter" is heavily overused.
"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

I've got the opposite impression from watching her show. I don't doubt she's educated. But lots of intelligent, educated people are stupid. She's anything but fair-minded. Though I don't doubt she is sincere in here unfairness and close-mindedness.

No, no, no he is cold and calculating. You can see the menace in his eyes.

I've often thought that the first thing that should disqualify someone from holding public office is their desire to be there in the first place.

And as an addendum to that I would add that anybody that sets themselves up as a leader of the masses ought to have his motives questioned.

There has been discussion about actual numbers of attendance. Park Rangers there said it was about half a million. Though they'll likely never release those figures in a statement.

From what I read it is now the policy of the parks service not to release official estimates of crowds anymore. The article I read said the policy had been in place for a little while, but didn't give any specifics.

They adopted a no crowd esitmate policy after the brouhaha that erupted when the NPS said the million man march wasn't.

I believe it was CBS that said attendance was about 87,000.

This is why I never want to see Mrs. Clinton in the White House and the same reason why I didn't vote for Obama.

That and as a public safety measure to protect against threat and terrorist attacks.

I sure hope the whole Libertarian branch of the conservative movement can see past the glitz of Beck and other religious-political-freaks. A hands off approach to government doesn't depend on any sort of return to religious standards as the basis of law. When the religionists win in politics, we move closer to a police state... more government prying into our personal lives, watching to make sure we aren't transgressing, and more people in prison for transgressing.

Still, it is a thing of beauty to see a Mormon out-evangelizing the evangelicals.

No kidding, but I wonder what would happen given the opposite scenario...

If only there was some example of a contry that was able to purge religion, for the most part, from its society.... I dunno, somewhere east of the US.... at approximately the same latitude....but a little colder.... with bears...

Russie purged religion from every facet of life. Robin's referring to separation of Church and State. Not the same thing. :slap:

Are there examples of this that might demonstrate that this is correct?

The most well known police states in recent history have been non-religious (Germany and USSR not to mention China and Vietnam). N Korea comes to mind, but it's religion is mere worship of the Dear Leader. Add Cuba to the list. Venezuela is getting there. On the religious side you have the arab states. There is no indication whatsoever that Glen Beck is the police state type. Quite the opposite. Though I still don't much care for his shows.

Is Utah any more of a police state than Canada? I say it is less so. Than California? Again, I don't see it.
