  • Citizen where you drop may be on the way out...

Republicans aren't happy...and I have brought up that if I were in charge this would be the first thing I would change.

And if you all saw the news today...Florida is going to put a new immigration policy into effect that is just like the one attempted in Arizona...but this one they are writing to withstand a Federal lawsuit.

and most of my students have been those children born to immigrants.....thing that bothers me is that we are mandated to report child abuse and neglect but not illegals....suppose to leave it alone.

Personally, I think 'citizen where you drop' is a good thing. To me, it is hard to imagine such an amendment getting the super-majority it would need for ratification.

I don't know how I feel about this. Something needs to be done about illegals immigration, but to punish babies because their parents willfully break the law just doesn't sit right with me.

If the federal government would do its job, this problem would be so insignificant that there would be no need to talk about denying innocent babies because their parents are law breakers.

I think you might be surprised. Immigration is a powder keg that is set to go.

President Obama has to do something extremely strong against illegal immigration or it will be his ousting.

How are you punishing the babies? What are you denying them?

Agreed about the powder keg. Just more fuel on the fire by the federal government by them not doing enough and suing states that are trying to do what the feds won't.

(I don't get to say this that often)

I agree with IPU about this. Jus soli is American. Let the Europeans have their Jus sanguinis. "Born in the USA" is a much better song than "Born to an American." This is all a moot point with meaningful immigration reform.

This will never ever become an Amendment. If immigration is a powder keg, I challenge any politician to witness the power of a fully-functional united Latino Death Star political block (that's just citizens). Mormon Prop 8 push? AMATEURS.

I don't have a problem with immigration, that's cool, just wish the parents, of some of my past students, would work at getting legal. My mother came legally, my best friend came legally, it can be done....I know, I know, it's not that easy and I can imagine why they risk their lives to come to the US but there are programs to help with legalities. Oh well, it is what it is.

I'm the adopted son of a former illegal. She married a US citizen, and that took care of that. My birth mother is not a US citizen. She was visiting from another country when I was born. Truthfully, she came to the US to have me, so that I could be a citizen. That made my adoption much easier.

Yeah, but no one gives a damn about you, Robin. We're talking about Americans!

It's so ridiculously difficult to "get legal" as a Hispanic, not to mention expensive. We need reform that makes it easier to A) enter the country legally, and B) get legal if you're already here illegally. Until that reform is in place, nothing will make it easier.

Someone posted this on CB the other day and I thought it was an interesting way to outline the problem.

I typically don't agree with much of your politics; however, I agree with you on what you think is needed for immigration reform. The only thing I would add is a "pre-A" step: Seal the border.

I suspect where you and I will differ strongly is when it comes time to discuss what rights/services/privileges unskilled legal aliens should have once they are here.
