I think my brother might have this. Whatever he has, he's not going blind in a year or anything, but his eyesight is progressively getting worse it's fairly certain that he's eventually going blind. Driving with him was an adventure, so I offered to do all the driving myself this past weekend. Thankfully he's working his way into an occupation that probably requires the least amount of eyesight of almost any job: forensic psychiatrist.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”Comment

Saying someone has a macular dystrophy is like saying you have "something going on with your heart". It can range from the benign to the severe debilitating depending what type of maculopathy it is. The other fact is loss of macular function by itself does not cause true blindness (can't see anything but black), but it can cause functional blindness (loss of central vision, leaving only peripheral function).
I think Beck is a blowhard and can't stand to listen to him, but I would never wish vision loss upon anyone.
PS I'm still in favor ofreleasing Barabbasletting Lingo back in at the next passover.Comment

Speaking of eye problems. A friends son, was playing baseball he ran down a fly ball and his hat flew off. The left fielder picked it up, and tossed it back to him after the play, the kid missed it and the bill of his hat hit him just right in his eye. He is now blind in the middle of his eye, he can see out the sides but not the middle. Talk about a freak accident.*Banned*Comment
