If he gets fired he is going to become a very wealthy man when he writes he book then starts doing speaking engagements. Perhaps he is at a point where he doesn't think anything more can be done in Afghanistan and he wants to cash in. Not sure what else to make of it. At a minimum it shows poor judgment on his part.

Then again, if he is contrite, perhaps Obama gives him a public woodshedding then says "get your ass back there and keep working."
Odd that you would describe a 'seasoned pro' as a person who would abdicate responsibility, undermine troop morale, and 'cash in' on the speaking circuit.

What exactly is this 'speaking circuit?' Who pays top dollar to hear Sarah Palin et al?

the federal court decision on the moratorium means nothing. I think the gov't will rescind the current moratorium and put a new one in place with better stated reasons or some such thing, to the same effect. Alternatively, all they have to do is get the MMS (now called the BOE) to really scrutinize permits, development plans, spill response plans, etc., to the same effect as well.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.
