    So why no Hawaiian tsunami?

Does anyone know why the Chilean earthquake failed to generate a tsunami of any note in Hawaii?

    National Geographic:

Although it will be a while before geophysicists understand for sure why the tsunami wasn't larger, [Geophysicist Emile] Okal speculates that part of the reason may be that the tsunami was generated in a relatively shallow part of the Pacific off Chile.
