Same question for Clarence Thomas.

Thomas' nomination isn't a good example for comparison as Thurgood Marshall had already broken that glass ceiling.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostSame question for Clarence Thomas.
My belief is that Sotomayor was nominated because she is a far left-winger. IMO her ethnicity was icing on the cake.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostThomas' nomination isn't a good example for comparison as Thurgood Marshall had already broken that glass ceiling.

Sure it is. Marshall and Thomas are on opposite ends of the political spectrum.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostThomas' nomination isn't a good example for comparison as Thurgood Marshall had already broken that glass ceiling.

Everything I have heard about Sotomayor is that she is actually pretty moderate. I'll admit I am not a close watcher of the Supreme Court. Has she shown something in the last few months to indicate that she is less moderate than thought?Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostThomas' nomination isn't a good example for comparison as Thurgood Marshall had already broken that glass ceiling.

It certainly didn't hurt her chances, agreed. But I do believe that Obama looked more at her politics than her race. As long as they think like he does, he doesn't care what color they are.Originally posted by falafel View PostIMO her ethnicity was icing on the cake."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

That's a good point. If we look at politics, rather than ethnicity, you are correct. I was just answering according to exie's question.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostSure it is. I haven't followed it much either.
