Utah resident Chip Ward wrote this opinion piece for CBS News. His thesis is that if you want to know what the country would look like if the Tea Party ran things, just come visit Utah. He has a pretty tragic rundown of recent craziness perpetrated by the legislature of our Pretty Great State.

UTAH: What the world would look like run by Tea Partiers
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...
None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.
I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

After reading the first page, I'm trying to see how Utah is different from California, which is also cutting its budget, raising tuition, and supporting Prop 8. Utah should get credit for the fact that it runs off its legislators who are caught driving under the influence (cf Ted Kennedy) or involved in sex scandals (cf Gary Condit).
Utah was recently named the best-managed state in the nation. Funny that you didn't see THAT in the article.
Utah rocks. If the country would look more like Utah by turning to tea-partyism, by all means, let's do it.Last edited by All-American; 04-06-2010, 04:11 PM.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

While I am a critic of Utah politics, that article made me cringe. What a hack job."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
"It's no secret that the great American pastime is no longer baseball. Now it's sanctimony." -- Guy Periwinkle, The Nix.

Utah Republicans and their LDS faith soften the edges a little. Alabama Repubs have no such refinement.Originally posted by New Mexican Disaster View PostActually, I think that the state's run by tea partiers would be Alabama and Mississippi. I would go a step further and say it is Church HQ that softens the hard-line stance of Utah Republicans. Weren't Utah Republicans heated up on the illegal immigrant rhetoric until Church HQ sent out a letter?Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostUtah Republicans and their LDS faith soften the edges a little. God bless Pres. Faust.

That is a pretty horrible article.
Case in point:(I added the brackets).-- organized labor is weak here, unions being another manifestation of creeping socialism. Utah’s history of labor organizing, or grass roots and civil rights organizing for that matter, is anemic compared to most of America. This is the place, after all, where IWW radical Joe Hill was arrested and executed [after being convicted of murder].
I love Joe Hill more than most (I dreamed last night I saw him), but the case against him seemed pretty cut-and-dry."More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

LOL. That was my first thought too.Originally posted by dabrockster View PostWhen I saw this, and without even looking at the article. First thing that came to my mind was that it would look more like Texas imo...Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...
