UTAH: What the world would look like run by Tea Partiers

Utah resident Chip Ward wrote this opinion piece for CBS News. His thesis is that if you want to know what the country would look like if the Tea Party ran things, just come visit Utah. He has a pretty tragic rundown of recent craziness perpetrated by the legislature of our Pretty Great State.

I know it's an opinion piece, but it would have been nice if they could have scraped the first two layers of venom off before they published it. That kind of rhetoric turns me off so much I want to disagree with the author on issues I agree with him on.

After reading the first page, I'm trying to see how Utah is different from California, which is also cutting its budget, raising tuition, and supporting Prop 8. Utah should get credit for the fact that it runs off its legislators who are caught driving under the influence (cf Ted Kennedy) or involved in sex scandals (cf Gary Condit).

Utah was recently named the best-managed state in the nation. Funny that you didn't see THAT in the article.

Utah rocks. If the country would look more like Utah by turning to tea-partyism, by all means, let's do it.

I would go a step further and say it is Church HQ that softens the hard-line stance of Utah Republicans. Weren't Utah Republicans heated up on the illegal immigrant rhetoric until Church HQ sent out a letter?

Case in point:
