A very nice, straightforward video with an undeniable message

Catholic Vote is going to run this commercial on BET a number of times during the Inaugural tomorrow:

    Nice.

There's quite an irony in that ad. A couple, in fact. Pretty funny.

Like the fact that some Catholic leaders have said that public support of Obama is a sin, because of his support for abortion? Is that one of the ironies you are thinking of?

The message of the ad is what I thought was interesting and quite compelling. If there's an irony, it cuts against Obama, whose record on abortion is very extreme indeed. (Hint: The irony is that his teenaged mom didn't abort him.)

The group that made the ad, CatholicVote.com, is run by the Fidelis Center for Law and Policy , which looks like a conservative Catholic Heritage Foundation-type group. CatholicVote.com also put out this ad prior to last fall's election:

The ad's technical excellence is undeniable. As a non-Catholic, I found it very inspiring. I'm not sure but I believe the production company that made it, Grassroots Films, is run by Jesuits. Their web site is very impressive and their work seems both passionate and highly professional. I wish our church had product even comparable to what those people are putting out.

LA, I am glad you are back! I was considering changing my avatar.

I had a sudden and severe attack of employment that, together with Christmas, took me away for a while. There was also that football game in New Orleans, which had me spending more time on the Ute board than this one, which is a less, well, satisfying site when it comes down to pure partisan cheering-my-guts-out activity.

I think you need to re-assess your priorities.
              Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Glad to have you back. Not much has happened. To summarize, BYU fans had been really stoic and gracious, until, well, until the parade. Yes, the parade caused them to totally lose it and start taking unwarranted cheap shots at Utah's achievements. Not much else has happened.

Not to worry though, LAUte. SU has been manning the barricades in a heroic fashion.

It's the only way we Ute fans know how to behave at such times and in such places.

Yes, these are the two ironies I was referring to: that Catholics who vehemently opposed this man's candidacy are now using his election to argue their cause; and that Obama, who as a fetus was perhaps a textbook candidate for termination, is now practically a cheerleader for abortion.

The third is that this man, probably the most pro-abortion candidate we've ever seen, is now being used as a poster boy for the pro-life movement.

You think Obama is grateful today that he wasn't aborted because he may have been an inconvenience to his mother?

Remind me again what YOUR church's official policy on abortion is? Oh yes. It is pro-choice in policy, but pro-life in rhetoric. Let me know when you get that one straightened out.
