I swear "going academic" will soon replace "going postal" in the popular parlance. It would suck to be denied tenure, or to fail qualifying exams, etc., but there still seem to be an awful lot of shooty academics.

Suspect surrenders after person fatally shot at Purdue University

A gunman shot and killed a person at Purdue University's electrical engineering building Tuesday before surrendering to a police officer outside, the Indiana school's police chief told reporters.


Both the suspect and the victim were males, Purdue Police Chief John Cox said, but their names weren't immediately released.
The shooting at the school of about 30,000 undergraduates in West Lafayette occurred at about noon. Officials asked students throughout the campus to stay indoors until police gave the all-clear a little more than an hour later.


Cox said it appeared that the suspect had just had one target in mind. He left the building right after the shooting, and a city police officer arrested him, Cox said.
