Anyone know about the person running against Bennett. I was thinking about it while driving home and I am really in the vote the "bums" out mode. While Bennett might be a really nice guy and good person, I have a hard time wanting any of them who have been around the last 20 years still there.

I could vote for the guy running against Bennett as long as he isn't an Eagle Forum guy.

Would depend on what his elective merit badges were.

I understand the desire to want to 'vote the bums' out, but the mentality really only hurts the state or district because of the seniority system. If Republicans take the Senate at any point in the next six years, Bennett would likely be chair of the appropriations committee. That would be a boon for Utah.

The guy he's running against seems like a decent enough guy. He's the son of Rex Lee and an accomplished attorney. Both Jim Hansen and Norm Bangerter have endorsed him.

You make a valid point that is not lost on me. However, I have a feeling the seniority system while benefiting me personally and my state, hurts the country as a whole. Lots of pork and backroom deals.

But you're not going to change that. Especially not by refreshing federal officials every few terms. It is only enabling other districts and states to benefit even more because their officials have a quicker rise to power. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Someone has to take a stand. Pretty easy stand though. Bennett will win with or without my vote. I can claim a prinicple stand and still benefit from others who won't.

I wouldn't be so sure he's going to sail through. I doubt he can close this thing up at the convention and a primary can be dangerous for an incumbent, especially in non-presidential years.
