Everyone knows my bias here, but I was just thinking about something. And I really don't know. But is there a lobby out there who is saying that the cost of automobile insurance has skyrocketed to the point where no one can afford it because of jury verdicts? I don't know the numbers, but I would think on volume auto policies pay out ten times what medmal policies do in a given year, maybe more.

I realize that most auto policies are much smaller. But lots of them aren't. Shouldn't the "tort problem" make it impossible for carriers to sell or anyone to afford a high limits policy? Just thinking out loud here.

I had never heard of this connection prior to reading the story this morning. I don't know how valid it is, but two researchers did enough work to get it published. If it's nonsense, obviously not need to change. If they are right, it may be a cause for concern and again some unintended consequences of not acting.
