  • The Dems are Feckless.

Will the Republicans shut-the-eff up already with the rants about Obama's socialist radicalism? It just isn't reality! The Dems' problem is that they are a feckless bunch of know-nothings that have forgotten what to do with a bit of power when the stars align to drop it in their lap. Worst of all, a generation of young people, energized by Obama's soaring speeches, believed for a moment that someone might actually step up to the plate and get something done. These smart, once-energized people, will simply stop showing up to the polls, and that will give power back to the Republicans. Quite frankly, I don't care. I'd rather have Republicans effing things up so bad that the disillusioned edge toward revolt than have the Dems sweep in with lofty rhetoric only to prove later to be incapable of getting anything done... sheesh!

Why can Bush, with a razor thin edge, accomplish so much, but Obama, with a hefty lead, can get nothing done? Because the political game is like a Chinese finger trap, rigged for the benefit of those with enough money to talk into the ear of our so-called representatives. Bush pushes the countries into the trap easy, because there was little moneyed resistance. Obama tries to pull the fingers out, and billions get spent to challenge his every move.

So nothing will change with health care, and nothing will change on wall street, and nothing will change to bring jobs back to America (because we hardly make anything anymore). State services that promise education and nutritious food the poorest people (the slimmest chance to escape the poverty cycle) will be sacrificed for more tax cuts to the middle and upper class. Geeesh... the dems are a bunch of feckless weasels. To hell with them.

If I was a progressive such as yourself, I too would be frustrated. You were close to having a bloodless coup and now it is falling apart.

Perhaps they moved just a bit too boldly and fast to slip it by everyone.

By the way, we have had 10% and higher unemployment before, things will get better when most of the country is assured there isn't going to be a Pelosi take over of the government.

You folks were very, very close though.

Hey now, the Chinese finger trap metaphor is my own.

So maybe the Republicans are going to sweep back into power, but things will not get better. The problems the nation currently faces are way deeper than anything that traditional Republican or Democratic policies are able to address. We needed an FDR, someone willing to apply the defibrillator and rewrite the social contract, and what we got was a persistent middler who has middled away everything he hoped to accomplish, and is still left with a failing economy and the sense that he was a deer in Washington's headlights.

I'll agree with you that the Dems have no balls. If they don't think they can get stuff done with their huge majority, they just don't have the guts to do it.

Your second paragraph seems to operate under some assumption that the Democrats are wildly underfunded or that they are hated by the special interests. I don't know how you could make that accusation with a straight face. The Dems don't have any money? Hah!

The biggest sin of the Democrats is that they don't know how to prioritize. It's well polled that health care reform is a major issue for a large swath of the country. There is unease all over the country about the state of health care. However, this is not everyone's #1 priority. As the Clinton campaign was wont to say, "It's the economy, stupid." And that's the truth. The unemployment and underemployment of our friends, neighbors, spouses, town, city, state, and nation is more disconcerting and immediate to us. Show some progress here and then move everyone onto your next priority. You don't have to even solve the problem. The American people can be awfully forgiving if there are signs of progress. Dumping money on top of the fire doesn't make the fire go away. P-R-I-O-R-I-T-I-Z-E.

There is no doubt, that when Democrats align their interests with money (I'm looking at you soon-to-be-ousted-Dodd), they get the same treatment that Republicans get. And Dems are as wrapped up in the Washington culture as Republicans, when it comes to making it easy for people with money to make more money. The problem comes when Dems try to do anything good for the people that don't have some moneyed interest to back them up.

In what other country do they elect officials who run on the premise that government DOESN'T work for the people, and then when they get elected, they work tirelessly to prove their point by effing it all up? This is the Republicans. They don't run a leaner government. They run a huge government and turn a blind eye to money interests (except when it comes to awarding pointless government contracts), and have a bunch of idiots believing that some invisible hand is going to make things better in a country full of illiterate people that have no marketable skills.

              Here's some enlightenment for you:

If the middle and upper income people have more disposable income, what do you think they do with it? They buy stuff. Companies sell stuff to them which allows them to hire more folks. Kinda see the pattern? The more people working and buying stuff, the more tax revenues which can fund some programs for the poor.

On a societal level, government should force fathers to pay for their offspring, not the taxpayer. Look at Washington DC where something like 70% of the children are born out of wedlock. Yeah, don't shove our morals down their throat, just give them our money. (I know that is an over simplification). But if you mention stats like that, you are a racist so people won't talk about the obvious.

The government does NOT and has never produced ANYTHING. Why would you think they can spend ourselves out of a recession?

Obama=Clinton. Just look at his cabinet; look at what's going on in the war theatres. He's closer to W. than a socialist, by far. I don't know how anyone could love Obama and hate Clinton.
